What a great week it was last week working with the Open Doors Academy scholars at Euclid Central Middle School! Our Digital Camp - Create, Print a Comic Strip Poster! đź’»

What an amazing week I had working with the scholars of Open Doors Academy at Euclid Central Middle School last week! We learned about the required elements of a comic strip, the four ages of comics as well as Storyboarding. We produced a poster of our BEST comic as our final product. It was great to share this camp experience with Jennifer Tran & also meet and work with Mr. Tim Hatfield!

On the last day of camp, we all took the Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology which is a series of questions and an accompanying scoring formula that classifies players of multiplayer online games (including MUDs and MMORPGs) into categories based on their gaming preferences. The test is based on a 1996 paper by Richard Bartle and was created in 1999–2000 by Erwin Andreasen and Brandon Downey.

Now that most of us are back to school, I've decided to post the last of several photos taken in my Video Game Design Camp that was held at Open Doors Academy this past July. Even with this camp being a really large group, the scholars that attend ODA camps never cease to amaze me! It was a fantastic week of fun and GAMES of course!

It's been a very busy second year of summer camps at Old Trail School! Our small but mighty and amazing group of young ladies created "inspiration" boards and business cards with original design company logos! In addition, they made videos of their fashion designs and ended the week, creating purses from Duck tape! Being that it was a short 4th of July week, we all had a blast! No pun intended! :-)

It has been a privilege to work as a community partner once again this summer alongside the staff of Open Doors Academy as well as with their amazing scholars! During the week of June 25th, ODA scholars brushed up on their creative writing skills by authoring short stories that dealt with the topics - Bridging Differences and/or What We Fear the Most. Historical Mystery & Fiction Author, Mary Frances Fisher stopped by to visit and shared her knowledge and experiences in getting started in writing. Scholars also took a walking field trip to learn about the print aspect of illustration with a midweek visit to Zygote Press.
