This past week, FFA members Brooklyn Richard, Jocelyn Richard, and Ella Regelstead showed their FFA swine projects at the Iowa State Fair

Ella Regelstead placed 5th in class with her dark crossbred breeding gilt and 9th in class with her light crossbred market hog

Brooklyn Richard received a blue ribbon with her purebred Spotted breeding gilt, purebred Duroc breeding gilt, and her purebred Yorkshire barrow

Jocelyn Richard placed 6th in class with her purebred Hampshire breeding gilt and received blue ribbons with her commercial gilt and purebred Yorkshire breeding gilt

Congratulations to our FFA members! Your hard work did not go unnoticed!

We had our first ever FFA honey harvest today. We bottled 24 twelve oz bottles of prairie honey! We had to check to make sure the frames were ready to harvest, cut off the wax cappings, and spin the honey out in the extractor before bottling. Big thanks to our beekeeper's parents for helping out today! They had the chance to help extract and do a hive inspection with guidance from their beekeeper.

Our hive inspection this morning led us to discover fully capped honey frames that are ready to harvest!

We also treated for mites using a naturally occurring acid called Formic Pro.

We will look to extract our first honey frames next weekend!

After winning Grand Champion at the Emmet County Fair, your ticket is punched for the North Central Iowa Showdown. Representing our chapter was Madi Nelson and Ella Regelstead.

Madi Nelson qualified with her Grand Champion Breeding Doe

Ella Regelstead qualified with her Grand Champion Breeding Ewe, Market Hog, and Market Meat Goat

At the end of the day today, Ella Regelstead won Grand Champion Market Hog qualifying her for the All Iowa Showdown tomorrow in Oskaloosa!
Ella also won the showmanship award in the Market Hog division.

Congratulations to both of them for representing our chapter today! And a special shout out to Ella for winning Grand Champion Market Hog!

Summer break doesn't mean a break for our FFA members. They have been busy this summer!

We look forward to hitting the ground running with even more FFA opportunities when school starts!

UPDATE: we have sold out, thank you to everyone who stopped by! We will refill our supply and look to be back at a farmers market in September with honey!

Stop by the farmers market until 6:30, our chapter is selling farm fresh eggs for $2/dozen.

Our chapter is selling farm-fresh eggs at the Estherville farmer's market starting this Thursday from 4:30-6:30! All of our eggs were produced at the Ag Learning Center and collected by our FFA members. Just $2/dozen!

Keep an eye out for later markets, we may have honey available in the future from our school hives!
