We are collecting Composer Cards this year! About 2 a month to complete the set that I have to give out. Our first composer is Amy Beach, whose birthday is today. She is one of my favorite composers, all her pieces are rich and full, dripping with emotion and feeling. It's recital time again! Our End of Year recital this year is titled "Made by Me" which is, you got it, original compositions! Every student wrote their own piece to perform. 5:30pm at Shepherd of the Mountain Lutheran Church (with a potluck dinner to follow). We are honoring our late friend and fellow piano/music teacher, Jenna Olschlager Williams who always combined her studio with mine for recitals, by dedicating the album to her. I just love my colleague Connie Greenwood! She is a master music educator of young children. Child centered beat motion activities as simple as this develop beat awareness at a very young age which helps with literacy skills and builds connections that also help with reading fluency. Plus the little sly smile when this little one realizes they are controlling the rhyme? PRICELESS!

It's recital week! We're going a little non-traditional again this time and hosting our recital in my backyard in 3 separate "mini" recitals featuring different students performing each night. Our theme: Favorite Things, invited students to perform their favorite piece of the semester while wearing their favorite outfit (or casual attire). All performances will be live streamed on my YouTube channel via the following links and will be available for later viewing. For students unable to perform this week, they will be recorded, and all performances compiled into a single YouTube video over the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Taylor for winning the fall semester FlipGrid Practice Challenge! Out of the 55 practice videos submitted, Taylor had 29! She chose the Larimer Humane Society as the recipient of the studio donation of $55 ($1 for every video). Not only is her charity a winner, but her amped up practice practice was evident as her piano skills EXPLODED. Remember all those silly ways to practice? Those are ALL valid at ANY time you need to spice up the "ho hum" in your practice routine. After all, if Taylor can explode her abilities by practicing: spinning after each line, having a dog bark in the background, with a puppy on her lap, with crazy hair, wearing all the colors of the rainbow, getting stuck on repeat, playing everything loud, soft, staccato, or legato, then so can you!

We open our doors to nearly 6,500 homeless, lost and abandoned animals every year. By providing a safe haven, veterinary services and daily enrichment to the animals in our care, we are creating second chances for the pets in our community. But it's only possible with your help.

Today's the day!! Our first Pre-Recorded 100% virtual recital will premier on YouTube today at 4pm Mountain Time. Come hear young musicians perform Christmas pieces on piano (and one flute). The newest student has only had about 4 months of lessons, the oldest ones have played over 10 years, so there's a wonderful line up of different skill levels.
