Singapore Math was developed by Singapore's Ministry of Education in the 1980s. It was brought to the United States in 1998. Since, its been widely adopted around the world.

Based on two international tests assessing math and science competency (the TIMSS and the PISA), Singapore students consistently rank among the top. Why? Because this approach focuses on the intentional progression of concepts which instills a deep understanding.

For example, in typical US math programs students are given a worked example and then expected to complete a series of problems closely resembling the example. This allows students to complete the steps without understanding the concept.

In our math classes, students are given a concept and must apply it to different situations from the start. This teaches our students to think mathematically and to rely on knowledge gained from previous lessons.

Finals are quickly approaching. Read these quick study tips to ensure success!

1️⃣ Create a study space - Create a space with minimal distractions to study in. Consider a quiet room where people do not usually congregate. Be sure there is proper lighting and seating!

2️⃣Stay organized - Get a personal planner that is small enough to carry in your book bag to keep track of important dates. Keep previous study material (that might appear on your final) in a folder at home rather than in your book bag. Utilize highlighters and sticky notes!

3️⃣Set goals for each study session - Set an accomplishable goal for each study session to keep you motivated. Be sure to reward yourself if you accomplish your goal!

4️⃣Always ask for help - Do not be scared to reach out to teachers, parents or classmates for help. There are also great resources online, like Khan Academy!
