It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ms. Anita Podles, who passed away on Friday, August 28th.
Ms. Anita was so much more than a member of our school community. She was a beloved part of the Sussex community for many years. She dedicated an incredible 42 years of service to our school, touching the lives of countless students, families, and staff members throughout her time at Sussex. She continued to be a familiar and caring presence in the lives of so many even after her retirement a few years ago.
Out of respect for Ms. Anita and her family, we have waited to share this news publicly. Today, Ms. Anita was laid to rest.
Our PTA Board has already begun exploring opportunities to obtain grants and financial support to create or dedicate something at Sussex in Ms. Anita’s memory. We would love to see a lasting tribute that reflects the love she had for our school and the children who call it home.
One of our hopes is to create a new playground or make significant updates to our current playground, including updating the school bus that sits on the playground. That bus was donated by Ms. Anita and her family many years ago following the tragic loss of their daughter. It has remained a special part of our playground for many years. We would love for any future project to honor not only Ms. Anita’s 42 years of service and dedication to Sussex, but also the love and generosity her family has shown to our school and our children.This is just the beginning of the process, and we are currently researching grants, donations, and other sources of financial support that could help make this vision possible. We will share more information as plans develop.

Thank you, Ms. Anita, for years of love, kindness, dedication, and memories. Your legacy will continue to be a part of Sussex for generations to come. Please keep Ms. Anita’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
