The LONG ISLAND SOUND, one of the most popular bands on the shoreline is celebrating its 50th season this summer with two concerts. The first, on the Ivoryton town green on Tuesday July 11 from 6:30-8:30 PM and the second on the Old Saybrook town green on Wednesday August 16, from 6:30-8:00 PM.
Formed in 1973 by Ivoryton drummer and vocalist Gary "Coach" Ribchinsky, this versatile band has entertained audiences at weddings, social events, and clubs throughout New England for the past half-century.
Audiences are treated to a wide variety of the most popular music including Swing, Motown, Oldies Rock, Funk, Disco, Latin, Country and Top 40. The Long Island Sound features, a full rhythm section, horns, and recording artist and lead vocalist Mary Beth Sippin. Band members include,

Hello DRUMMERS!
For decades I have taught drums/ classical percussion to 100’s of successful wonderful students of all ages and abilities. With also an active professional playing career and raising a family, I have decided to dedicate more full time in my teaching portion of my career. Both online and studio lessons are now available.

All styles are welcome and our focus is on drum set coordination- rudimental and chop building exercises both drum set and snare drum. Mallets ( marimba -vibes) and musical background playing to all styles ( genres ) as well as forming creative stylistic solo’s.

My studio is also equipped with the latest of multi camera audio/video production for ZOOMING and multi set up of drum sets for teacher student -simultaneous play.

Young percussionist will also have dedicated time to strong pedagogy of
Regional and All State required material.

MY RESUME:

Gary Ribchinsky (drummer/vocalist
founder and leader of the Long Island Sound band in operation since 1974. Gary has performed with stars such as Sammy Davis Jr., Engelbert Humperdink, Nel Carter, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. He has also performed at the Goodspeed Opera House, the national Broadway tour of Ain't Misbehavin', the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra New England. He has been musician, contractor and percussionist for the New England Pops and the American Musical Theater as well as many Big Bands throughout New England. He is also the percussionist with the CD award winning Klezmer group, Klezical Tradition and plays frequently with Zev and the Klezmer All Stars. Gary has taught percussion at the University of Connecticut and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and was the assistant band director and percussion instructor/ arranger for the national award winning East Lyme High School Viking Band. He studied at the Boston Conservatory with renowned percussionist Arthur Press. Currently, Gary owns and operates GR Media Productions which offers a full array of HD video and audio recording services. He is a tennis professional (PTR) and varsity girls’ tennis coach at Valley Regional High School since 2004. As passionate about tennis as he is about music, Gary plays USTA 4.5 tennis tournaments throughout New England and has built a successful 30 year Park and Recreation tennis program in the tri-town area. Gary resides in Ivoryton with wife (cellist) Julie. His three children are all successful musicians, educators, and tennis players.
