March Mammal Madness has started here at school.
March Mammal Madness update! Tonight the combatants in the Money Mammals division are up, who will win? Here are a few fun facts about a few of the animals competing tonight:
Our number 1 seed, the Humpback Whale: they undertake one of the longest journeys of any mammal, traveling up to 5,000 miles between feeding and breeding grounds.
Our number 12 seed, the Giant Anteater, has no teeth! They use a two foot long sticky tongue to consume up to 30,000 ants and termites daily!
And our final fact today is about our number 7 seed, the Arabian Oryx. These animals can detect rainfall from a mile away and travel to it, allowing them to go weeks or even months without drinking standing water.

The Penguin Plunge is just around the corner, and we are all getting pumped to brave the icy waters of Lake Champlain for such an incredible cause on Saturday, February 7th. As we count down the days, we aren’t just freezing for fun—we are supporting the inspiring athletes of Special Olympics of Vermont.

Our Plunging Eagles are asking for donations that can be made on your favorite Eagles fundraising page, or our generic EMS page (https://give.specialolympicsvermont.org/team/790545) . If need be checks (made out to Special Olympics of Vermont), or cash (needs to be delivered to Ms. Hall or Ms. Battaile by February 6th at 3 pm) at EMS.

Thank you to our 58 students and staff for their bravery and spirit—let’s get this done!

Essex Middle School students and staff are invited to take the plunge—literally—as we jump into the icy waters of Lake Champlain together to support school spirit, community pride, and a great cause, Special Olympics of Vermont. Whether you’re diving in, helping us fundraise for our school, or cheering from the sidelines, this event promises tons of fun and plenty of laughs. The Penguin Plunge is a fantastic way to challenge yourself, bond with friends and teachers, and make memories you’ll be talking about for years.
