The Schoharie River Center once again joins the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in collecting data at multiple sites along the Mohawk and Hudson rivers. This year we ran sites at our location in Esperance with Duanesburgh HS students on the Schoharie Creek, and on the Mohawk River with Schenectady HS students.

This video captures the work of the Schenectady City School District, Schenectady HS students as they collected chemical and biological data to be submitted to the DEC along with all the other sites to create a snapshot of the quality of both waterways and their tributaries.

We want to thank the students that joined us from both schools, and the teachers/school districts for their partnership.

TONIGHT at Origins Cafe in Cooperstown, NY, the 4th annual Mayfly Film Festival. An hour long program of short films focus on the environment and our relationship to it!

We are bringing the 4th annual Mayfly Film Festival to Origins Cafe in Cooperstown, NY! Tuesday, October 13th at 7pm. Come early for some succulent arranging, grab some food and drinks, and then watch our incredible program of short films.

Our other site for Day In The Life of a River this year was on the Schoharie Creek at the Schoharie River Center, where we were joined by students from Duanesburgh High School. These students collected data to create a snapshot of the creek as it flows into the Mohawk and feeds into the Hudson. Tributaries play a major role in the health of a river. Our data is then shared with the larger DEC project to get a bigger picture of the Mohawk and Hudson watersheds.
Thanks to the Duanesburg Central School District for partnering with us on this program, and to all the students who joined us in the creek!

We had another productive and insightful Day In The Life of a River this year. We had 8 Schenectady High School students join us at the Gateway Landing Park on the Mohawk River. We were also joined by Alex from the DEC, as well as Skye from NY Canal Corporation. The purpose is to have students collect data to create a snapshot of the river at dozens of locations, to better understand how our piece of the Mohawk Watershed fits into the larger Mohawk-Hudson ecosystem.
Our students ran chemical and observational assessments of the water and surrounding area. They collected fish samples and macro-invertebrates.
Thank you to Jennifer Insull and her students for spending the day with us in the water!
We also had a site on the Schoharie Creek with students from Duanesburgh High School.

Thank to everyone who came out to our Open House/ Contra Dance on Saturday. The Catskill Gamblers did an amazing job leading the dance.
We had a great time out in the preserve and in the lab earlier in the day, and finished things off with music & dance!

The Schohare River Center's Environmental study team will be at Gallupville 250th anniversary cellebration. Come by our table in the park by the creek. You can help us sample and identify the macroinverebrates living there.
