Rising seniors Karlyn Area and Kharia Geurink attended the Kansas Future Teacher Academy this week, hosted by Emporia State University.

This five-day camp included guest presentations from a variety of educators, including the new Kansas Commissioner of Education, Dr. Jake Steel.

Students were introduced to a variety of teaching topics and then paired with another student to complete a creative presentation about their subject.

Karlyn and Kharia did a phenomenal job with their presentations! They are both in the Education/Training Pathway in the Family & Consumer Sciences department at MV. Join us in congratulating these extraordinary future teachers. Mission Valley is so proud of you!

Mission Valley High School is excited to welcome Nan Brown to our Viking family! Nan will be teaching High School English. Nan grew up in the “big city” of Aurora, Colorado, before moving to western Kansas in 1993—and she’s called Kansas home ever since. She is the proud parent of three grown children, grandmother to one grandson, and "grandmom" to five furry family members. When she’s not at school, Nan enjoys sipping flavored iced coffee, reading a good book, singing, and sharing quotes from her favorite movies and TV shows. She’s also a longtime fan of 1980s Care Bears and loves Christmas so much that she collects snowmen! Please join us in giving Nan a warm Mission Valley welcome. Hello! My name is Wyatt Lanning and I am excited to be joining the Mission Valley community and teaching World History, US History and US Government! I am also thrilled to be helping coach high school football and wrestling!

My passion for education started along my own high school experience back home in St. Paul, Minnesota. I graduated with both History and Education degrees from Fort Hays State University in 2022. My enthusiasm for education has only grown in helping students learn, develop, and discover their own strengths and abilities both inside and outside the classroom. My goal is to create a positive, supportive learning environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and encouraged to do their best.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and family, avid reading, and watching sports (any Minnesota sports team). Furthermore, I believe strong relationships between students, families, and teachers are key to a successful school year, and I look forward to partnering with you to support our students’ learning and growth.

I am excited to begin this journey at Mission Valley and can't wait to get to know all of my students and their families. Here's to a wonderful year of learning and achievement!

Mission Valley is excited to welcome Paige Vander Linden as our new 7-12 School Counselor! 🎉

Paige joins us from Topeka High School, where she currently serves as a counselor. She brings a passion for supporting students and helping them succeed both academically and personally.

A few fun facts about Paige:
🐾 She loves dogs and has two Great Danes.
🎭 She has been involved in theatre since she was 8 years old.
💅 When she’s not chasing after her one-year-old, she enjoys doing her nails and thrifting.
