What if mindfulness was not something parents practiced alone—but something families could grow together?
Join Brother Phap Luu, Sister Phu Nghiem, Dr. Diane Gilbert-Diamond of Dartmouth College, and mindfulness educator Dr. Orlaith O’Sullivan for a special webinar exploring the vision behind Happy Families Change the World, a new online course rooted in the Plum Village tradition founded by peace activist and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
For decades, Plum Village monasteries and practice centers have offered family retreats and child-friendly mindfulness practices that help nourish connection, presence, and joy across generations. Now, for the first time, many of these beloved practices are being gathered into an online course designed to support families wherever they are in the world.
In this conversation, we’ll explore:
* Why practicing mindfulness together as a family matters
* How the Plum Village tradition has made mindfulness accessible for children and parents alike
* The vision behind creating a global community of families practicing together
* How research and lived practice are informing this innovative program

Opening Autumn 2026 in the foothills of Deer Park Monastery in southern California, USA, the Thich Nhat Hanh School of Interbeing will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The School draws the Plum Village community’s decades of experience nurturing joyful and compassionate children through family programs, and is guided by a founding team of expert educators and educational researchers.
While serving families locally, the School of Interbeing will research and share its learnings globally, serving as a “living laboratory” for a new approach to education that deeply nurtures a child’s connection to themselves, their community, and the natural world. As the School takes root, we aspire to have it seed new Schools of Interbeing around the world.
We aspire to continue Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings, transforming education by nurturing the ethical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions of our students, parents, and teachers. It is our intention that the entire learning community is equipped to live in deep relationship with themselves, their communities, and the Earth.
