Had a blast this morning facilitating “Symphony Storytime” in collaboration with the Poway Library! “Because,” by Mo Willems, is a beautiful story about a girl who grows up to become a composer. Musicians Jesús Cervantes (violin) and Gina Caviar (viola) brought her story to life, weaving musical themes and sound effects into the narrative to help tell the story. 🎶📕 Thank you to the Poway Library for having us!

There are so many moving parts to delivering a good performance, which is why in today's Studio Class, we focused on developing performance technique and stage presence. For their first activity, students worked together to put the many performing steps in the proper sequence.

Had a great time playing Dvorak’s 9th and his cello concerto with Poway Symphony!
The New World Symphony was a new world for me and I had a blast learning the piece. I remember studying it in excerpt class at Oberlin, and now to play it was an awesome experience. So many fun flute moments!

This week, students are listening to the Mozart Flute Concerto in D Major. This concerto is actually a reworking of his oboe concerto written in 1777. I’ve always preferred it over his Flute Concerto in G!
