We are so proud to share that Leann Shope, a Forest Technology student in the MSU MSU IAT Forest Technology program at Bay College, has been named a 2026 Warren Suchovsky Scholarship recipient!

Leann was presented with her $2,000 scholarship at the Michigan Association of Timbermen's Annual Convention at Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, Michigan, on April 17, 2026. The scholarship honors the incredible legacy of Warren Suchovsky — a Michigan forestry leader who gave more than 60 years to advancing sustainable forestry in our state.

Tomorrow is the big day! Don't miss out on the Bay College Plant Sale!

On Friday, May 8, 2026, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Eastern, the Bay College Greenhouse will be selling native plant seedlings and vegetables starts. This one-day event will take place at the greenhouse and biology lab (Room 116) in the Math Science Building on the Escanaba campus.

The sale will include a section of native wildflowers, perennials, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs. Pricing starts at $25 per flat (mix and match), and $1 per individually potted plant. All proceeds support the continuing operation of the greenhouse and plant donations to various community groups and projects.

The Bay College Greenhouse is committed to providing a local source of native plants for area gardeners interested in our local flora. Native plants are adapted to local conditions and have natural defenses to disease and insect pests. Importantly, they provide habitat and food for butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds, and beneficial insects. Once established, they require little care or supplemental watering.

We found the Forestry Club in the greenhouse transplanting seedlings. This amazing club is a collaboration of students from various majors who simply enjoy nature and everything it has to offer.

This event was a paid job, so their funds go into their club account. Thanks Dr. Black!

Join us on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026 at 6:30pm EST for “The Land Has A Story To Tell- But Are We Listening?” You will meet Zach Wilson, Forest Ecologist for the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. You’ll learn about his work, and the education and career path he followed to get there. Youth are encouraged to ask questions to learn more through a live Q&A. This free virtual series is open to 4-H and non-4-H youth ages 12-19 years. Monthly sessions are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm EST.
