Today we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy and honor the Sisters of Mercy, whose legacy is deeply woven into the history of St. Luke School.

To thank them, students at St. Luke School made cards for the Sisters up the hill.

On September 24, 1827, Catherine McAuley opened her first House of Mercy in Dublin to serve women, children, and the poor. Nearly two centuries later, the fruit of that act of faith is still being felt here in Erie, PA.

From the opening of St. Luke School in 1955, to Mercyhurst Preparatory School, Mercyhurst University, and beyond, generations of Sisters of Mercy have shaped minds, formed hearts, and changed lives.

To the Sisters of Mercy: thank you for what you built at St. Luke School, for all you have given to Catholic education, and for the countless lives you have changed.

God bless the Sisters of Mercy. Pray for them today, and honor their legacy by being a little more merciful in your own words and actions.

From spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports and now diving into the Wide World of Erie Catholic Athletics, the week that was:

The Erie Catholic Knights went 3 – 0 yesterday against NPC Ironment of Pittsburgh.

The Developmental Knights 16 – 8, (Manny DeJesus ran for 2 TDs and Connor Zaruta scored on a 2-point conversion) JV Knights 28 – 0, (Martell Johnson ran for 3 TDs, London Lofton connected with Landon Baker on a TD pass) and the Varsity Knights won 49 - 8, ( Peyton Friedman threw 3 TD passes, Jarell Flemmings, Jr. scored on pick 6, Bryce Braendel had 2 receiving TDs and Zymeir Crosby scored on a punt return TD).

This is the first time in 4 years that the ECK swept the Ironmen. Way to Go!

St. Luke School was proud to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of September 11th with an assembly organized by Mrs. Amendola and Mrs. Barbalaci.

We welcomed Erie Mayor Devlin, Erie City Councilwoman Kathy Schaaf, representatives from Mercyhurst Preparatory School and Cathedral Preparatory School, a representative of Rep. Bob Merski's staff, members of Erie Catholic School System leadership, and a congregation of first responders from all types.

We would like to thank them, all our guests, and the Cathedral Preparatory School JROTC for presenting the colors, and Mercyhurst Preparatory School performing arts for singing the National Anthem for us.

One of our students read "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus - the very poem etched into the Statue of Liberty that serves as a beacon of hope for these United States of America.

We ended the assembly with the whole school singing "God Bless America" - it is important that we pass along this event from one generation to the next, especially since no student in the building was alive during the attacks. We remember - we serve as a remembrance.
