Students this week got introduced to water quality with Dr. Kim and were able to test samples from Lake Erie for TDS and BOD 💧📝

This activity gives students a chance to see what different educational opportunities students in the Environmental Science & Engineering program may experience.

Yesterday was spent designing effective filters to obtain the best turbidity and color removal for water samples💧

Students had to visit our “shop” and budget their purchasing of materials to not only have an effective design but also an efficient one 💵

…and what would field work be without lab work? Students took time in the lab afterwards to sort and categorize the macro-invertebrates found to then assess the health of the stream 🔬

We had an awesome last two days out in the field doing stream assessments to collect macro-invertebrates 🪱 🐌🤓

Applications for 2021 Gannon Summer School of Excellence are open!

This camp provides high-achieving and ambitious high school juniors and seniors (as of fall 2021) an eight-day intensive laboratory and field research experience in the sciences and engineering. Camp participants work alongside Gannon faculty members and students to explore the ecology and health of coastal areas and water bodies. Students will learn about careers in coastal zone management, ecology, and other areas of biology, environmental science and engineering, and chemistry. Participants will study Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay aboard Gannon University’s research vessel, the Environaut.
