Snowy Cove Piano Studio

Snowy Cove Piano Studio Private acoustic piano lessons: beginners through advanced students, children through adults. Group electric keyboard (digital "piano") classes.

A time-tested and effective pedagogy is used, combining elements of both Suzuki and "traditional" methods. A distillation of years of experience, this teaching approach has blossomed forth from a musical and academic foundation provided by tremendously gifted, generous and renowned artist-teachers such as Gail Berenson (Ohio University, Athens), Mary Craig Powell (Capital University, Columbus, OH), James Tannenbaum (Cleveland Institute of Music), and Seymour Fink (author of acclaimed book/video "Mastering Piano Technique "). The aesthetics of this comprehensive pedagogy have been further influenced by Interdisciplinary Fine Arts studies in the Ph.D program of Comparative Arts (Ohio University) and my own personal experience as a musician, composer and visual artist. Throughout my teaching years, I have learned the benefits of making frequent verbal references to art, visual concepts, and various characteristics of spoken language. Thus, through the power of analogy, many students have found a means to enhance their expressive capabilities and find their own unique "voice". Unhindered access to a home acoustic piano (a "regular" piano in good working order, with 3 pedals) is required for the daily practice routine of private piano students. An electronic keyboard (of an appropriate size, with weighted keys) is sufficient for the home practice of students enrolled in recreational Group Keyboard classes (when offered).
