Our Gannon University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty were proud to present at 2026 BCCE in Madison, WI! Dr. Ria Betush shared a poster on her recent updates to our "green" organic chemistry labs and gave an oral presentation on her Chemistry of Baking course. Dr. Krise presented on chemistry outreach and led a discussion with more than 40 attendees on outreach best practices.
Professional development opportunities like help our faculty bring new ideas and evidence-based teaching practices back to our classrooms, enhancing the Gannon University student learning experience.

Students participating in the Gannon University Regional Summer School of Excellence (RiSSE) explored the fascinating nanoworld with Gannon University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty, discovering how nanotechnology impacts everyday life and helps protect our environment.
Students synthesized gold nanoparticles and used them as nanosensors to determine which sports drink contained the highest concentration of electrolytes to help replenish the body after exercise. The surprise winner? Pickle juice had the most electrolytes!

As we celebrate the Fourth of July, take a moment to appreciate the chemistry behind the spectacular fireworks lighting up the night sky!
โค๏ธ Red comes from strontium compounds.
๐ค White is produced by burning magnesium or aluminum.
๐ Blue comes from copper compounds, but it's one of the most challenging colors for chemists to create because it requires just the right temperature.
