Briggs Kidd in Ms. Shana’s class has earned 11.6 AR points on only the 2nd day of AR. He’s earned 2 Book Bucks which allows him to sit at the teacher’s desk for the day.

Mrs. Shana’s class finished reading the story “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Lessmore” this week. They learned that just like Morris, they will find a way to love reading in third grade. When life knocks you down, you get back up and find meaning.

Here are practical study tips for elementary students that are easy for children and families to use:

Study in short chunks. Try 10–20 minutes of focused work followed by a short break.

Have a consistent study spot. Choose a quiet, organized area with limited distractions.

Create a routine. Study or complete homework around the same time each day.

Break big assignments into smaller steps. Focus on one part at a time instead of the whole task.

Practice a little every day. Short daily review is usually more helpful than studying everything at once.

Read directions carefully. Circle or underline important words such as compare, explain, solve, or describe.
Use active studying. Make flashcards, draw pictures, create diagrams, sort information, or practice problems instead of only rereading.

Teach someone else. Explain the skill or idea to a parent, sibling, classmate, or even a stuffed animal.

Ask yourself questions. After reading, stop and ask, “What was the most important idea?” or “Can I explain this in my own words?”
Use memory tricks. Create rhymes, acronyms, motions, or funny connections to help remember information.
Review mistakes. Look at incorrect answers and figure out why they were wrong.

Set a small goal. For example: “I will learn five spelling words” or “I will solve five multiplication problems correctly.”

Remove distractions. Put away phones, toys, television, and anything that makes concentrating harder.
Take movement breaks. Stretch, walk, do jumping jacks, or get a drink before returning to work.

Get organized. Keep folders, notebooks, pencils, and assignments in designated places.

Prepare the night before. Pack the backpack and gather anything needed for the next school day.

Get enough sleep. A rested brain has an easier time concentrating, learning, and remembering.

Celebrate progress. Notice effort and improvement, not just perfect scores.

For younger elementary students, one of the best routines is Learn → Practice → Explain → Take a Break → Review.
