Ephrata School District

Good morning.

I am making the decision to postpone the reopening of 7th-12th grades until Monday, December 7th. Based on the data, I believe this is the safest, wisest, and most prudent decision to make for our students, staff, and community.

All our current programs and offerings will remain in effect (unchanged).

Thank you for your patience, understanding and support.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

PS:
During this holiday season, would you ponder and share the things you are blessed and thankful for?
I am blessed and thankful for my family, health, a positive attitude, and to be the superintendent of Ephrata School District.

Ephrata School District

Good Tuesday morning!

It is such a blessing to be in the Ephrata community and get to work with the kids and adults of this district...THANK YOU!

Let me continue to encourage you to look for the positive and be a positive influence on those around you - only YOU get to choose this.

The purpose of this update is to give you insights on our phased-in reopening plan.

Let me say up front: As of the writing of this email, we are continuing with our plan. We still have 2 weeks until we bring back 7-12; a lot can change in 2 weeks. Let me remind us, the Grant County Health District (GCHD) can close our schools at any time if we have too many COVID cases transmitted WITHIN a school setting. Also, a shortage of staff to operate our schools (see Moses Lake middle schools) can close a school as well.

The majority of the community is in favor of our reopening plan.
Staff have worked hard to be prepared - both from a health & safety perspective and teaching & learning.

Our K-6 reopening has gone well; not without COVID or quarantine, but our non-pharmaceutical interventions (see below) and contract tracing protocols are working.

With that said, we (kids, staff, and community) must remain vigilant with the observation and implementation of ALL non-pharmaceutical interventions.

Here is a detailed description of what the district follows (might I suggest that the community follow these as well?):
Daily do your wellness (symptom) screening:
-Fever (100.4) or chills
-Cough
-Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
-Unusual fatigue
-Muscles or body aches
-Headache
-Recent loss of taste or smell
-Sore throat
-Congestion or runny nose
-Nausea or vomiting
-Diarrhea
-Stay at home when you are sick (seriously, stay home)

Parents, please keep your kids home when they are sick or when they have one or more symptoms of COVID-19.

The Department of Health (DOH) says staff and students can return to school:
-After 10 days from the start of the COVID-like illness symptom(s) and feeling better; or a negative COVID-19 test can decrease the 10 day requirement for someone with symptom(s).
-A negative test will not decrease the 14 day requirement during quarantine, which is used when some is a close contact to a person with COVID-19.
-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer with more than 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
-Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
-Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve.
-Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
-Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
-Practice physical distancing, leaving at least six feet between you and other people.
-Wear a face covering such as a cloth mask over your nose and mouth.

Have a fantastic day and week.
Be safe, healthy, and positive.

Professionally,

Tim Payne
Superintendent

School Closure During 2020/21 School Year

For the 2020/2021 school year there won’t be any “late starts” and/or “canceled school” because of the District’s ability to quickly pivot to Distance Learning. Said another way, in the event facilities are not opened/accessible to people, then school will still occur via Distance Learning.

How district-wide Distance Learning will function:

-Buildings/Facilities are closed/not accessible.
-School will continue via Distance Learning.
-Students will remotely attend their Google Meets and other --Google Classroom activities following their regular class schedule(s).
-This means all students, preschool through grade 12, work remotely from home.
-Extra-curricular will be determined by 10 AM the day of, based on the reason/need.
-Food services during a closure will be available for pick up from 2PM-3PM at the very back of the Middle School - at the kitchen.

What is the process for notifying people of a district-wide Distance Learning day:

If you are questioning whether school will be open or closed because of weather conditions, watch the Spokane TV stations or listen to radio stations in Wenatchee (KPQ 560 AM) and Moses Lake (KWIQ 100.5 FM) (KDRM 99.3 FM) or (KBSN 1470 AM). These TV and radio stations have given special emphasis toward reporting all school closures periodically from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. Our schools will be open unless local TV stations, radio stations, District website, pages, &/or school messenger announces otherwise. Parents would receive a phone call/notification through “school messenger” early in the morning after a decision is made for a closure.

In the event it is necessary to call for a closure, the following may be posted on the District website or explained through school messenger: “School buildings/facilities are closed/not accessible due to _________. Students will be engaged via Distance Learning.”

This protocol applies to any event that would have caused a late start and/or canceled school (weather, COVID, etc.). Having just one protocol should make life easier to keep track of for kids, parents, staff, and the community

NOTE: If it is necessary for the District to close schools after school begins, the same procedures will be used to notify parents (television, radio, website, school messenger, Facebook) at least one hour in advance of the closure time and students being sent home.

Professionally,

Tim Payne, Superintendent

[11/13/20]   Good afternoon. This is principal Dahl with a reminder about Friday attendance. Every teacher has work and assignments for your child to complete on Fridays. This counts for attendance. Attendance has been very difficult on Fridays and we appreciate your grace and patience over the last four weeks. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Dear Grant Student Parents/Guardians,

What a crazy year it has been! This years annual See’s Candy Fundraiser is going to look a little different. We’re going all online! Orders will be sent directly to the buyers home. The direct link to sell is here-

http://www.yumraising.com/secure/grantep_grant_elementary_pto_ephrata18/candy?h=MarCob7834&c=fb9338

This link can be sent to friends, family and anyone who is interested in See’s Candy. The fundraiser will run from November 6th to November 25th. It’s important to note that orders WILL NOT start shipping until November 16th. We recognize that not everyone wants to sell but still wants to donate so attached is a donation/OP OUT form! Anything is appreciated! Donations will be due on November 25th. Please make out any and all checks out to Grant PTO.

Along with our fundraiser being a little different this year, prizing will be different too! The first or second week of December there will be a virtual, all school assembly AFTER school on Thursday at 6PM. Day to be announced. This assembly will be to draw winners for all of the awesome prizes! Mr. V will draw names of students from each grade. Due to this fundraiser being all online and keeping the safety and privacy of our students, we will not be able to track individual sales of the students. Therefore, EVERY STUDENT will be entered into these drawings. The prizes will be grouped into grade appropriate prizes. The prizes will need to be picked up before Christmas break or a new winner will be drawn. Please, see the back side of this sheet for prizes.

We’re so thankful for all the support during this fundraiser. We couldn’t do it without you all!

If you have any questions, please, reach out to the PTO email! The email is [email protected]. We’d be happy to help you answer any questions. Thank you and happy selling!
