Hello Ephrata! Just a quick reminder that your Ephrata Library is currently closed for all library services while we begin our long-awaited Reimagining Spaces project.

📚Wondering about your holds? Any holds that are currently at the library will still be here for you when our temporary Pop-up space opens on Thursday September 3rd and we will allow extra time for everyone to pick them up (you'll have until Monday, September 14—about ten days).

Due to construction and demolition processes happening in the building, library staff are unable to process any materials for a while. Thank you so much for your patience and we look forward to seeing you again on Thursday September 3rd in the Library's temporary Pop-up Space!

📚 New Book Tuesday!

This week the new books are taking a look at family.

⭐Disarmingly funny and quietly wise, A Guide to Open Water Life Saving (Eubanks), is the story of how one woman tried to rescue her beloved and learned she would also have to rescue herself, reminding us: no one survives the wilderness alone.
⭐In A Tender Age (Lee), at home, Jeon-Gi’s working-class parents dote on him, but outside, he is part of a roving pack of kids with dominion over a derelict baseball field, where getting into and out of trouble is all-consuming; however, he becomes embroiled in events reverberating far beyond himself and his family.
⭐For teen readers, My Killer Family Reunion (Thiru) is a hilarious and twisty mystery-comedy about an Indian American teen whose family reunion at a lavish manor falls into chaos after her grandma is attacked.

📚 New Book Tuesday!

This week, we have new books about people and their stories!

⭐The Story of Your Life (Jezer-Morton) examines how social media platforms change the way we share information but what stories we choose to tell and how these choices reflect and shape our evolving identities.
⭐In Your Fellow Americans (Santenello), after years of traveling abroad, the author realized how unfamiliar America seemed; with a camera in hand and an open mind, he began visiting places that the media overlooks or misrepresents, from tiny towns in Appalachia to the streets of East LA.
⭐The People’s Historian (Zirin) is a deeply researched biography of Howard Zinn, iconic historian and the beloved author of the national bestseller, with more than 4 million copies sold, A People's History of the United States.

📚✨ Big news, Ephrata! Your library is getting a whole new look.

Starting Monday, August 10, the Ephrata Public Library will close temporarily for a full interior remodel, designed with input from 600+ community members through our Reimagining Spaces Project.

Think a community meeting room, refreshed kids' and teen areas with fun new furniture, a study room set up for telehealth and video appointments, totally renovated restrooms (hello, first fully ADA-compliant restroom!), and new paint, flooring, lighting, and furniture throughout. 😍

Huge thanks to our partners at the City of Ephrata - Government for helping make this happen! 💛

Weekly Storytime and Sit and Stitch will continue at the Ephrata Recreation Center. And, in early September a pop-up library will open in the meeting room.

The remodeled library will reopen in the first quarter of 2027. We'll be sharing progress along the way. Full details ➡️

📚 Happy New Book Tuesday

In new books this week, several titles feature the theme of war, ancient and more modern.

⭐In nonfiction, Band on the Run (O’Connell), philosopher-warrior Xenophon leads a stranded band of "Ten Thousand" mercenary soldiers in an escape from their foes.

⭐In Biological War (Jacobsen), based on dozens of new interviews with experts with high-level political, governmental, medical, and military responsibility, the author examines that very scenario.

⭐In graphic novel 1776 (Straczynski), a formidable squad of Marvel heroes goes back in time to 1776, and as eras collide on the battlefield, the heroes and founding fathers may be more out of time than they realize.
