Pre-K worked on their gross motor skills during free-play. They worked to stack large Legos into homes and castles. Some ran around trying to locate more blocks, and others demonstrated excellent social and communication skills by sharing their blocks. Back int class, Teacher Rockie put the students to work tracing letters and shapes during quiet instruction time.

This week, Steve has been working with our interested school-aged children during our scheduled nap/quiet time. He has been guiding them through the steps of weaving so that they can each make a personalized dreamcatchers.

Art that is educational is messy. Process art often involves getting paint on your fingers, clothes, and your face. This type of art allows each child to explore their own creativity and no piece of work looks like their classmates. The Two's class suits up to create their next masterpiece.

Allowing a child to play independently can aid in building problem-solving skills, creativity and the ability to self-entertain. For most children, playing alone is common practice. As educators, we understand the importance of engaging in play learning with the children. When we "play" with the kids, we are fostering security, self-image, emotional support, while working on language, reciprocal communication, taking turns, and sharing. Sit down on the floor and you will quickly see how vital the nature of belonging/community is to the human experience. Teacher Maria joins one of our eager two-year-olds in small world play involving Little People and a dollhouse.

Our entrance bulletin board has been up for a few weeks already. It features past photos of many of our students. The children have enjoyed walking by and seeing their younger selves. While we have all had fun looking and guessing who is who, this collage symbolizes so much more. In these precious faces you can see the 14 years of dedication Steve has poured into the center, the children, and the families of our community. Some of the youngest kids on here started as toddlers and are headed off to Parkway and the Middle school. Several of our former students have even come on as employees. As staff, we are honored to have been able to watch these kids grow throughout the years. We understand how difficult the choice is to trust others with your children. Please know that we do not take that responsibility lightly.

During the Four's STEM Summer Camp the students worked with frozen baking soda ice cubes and doused them with vinegar. They were able to observe how the reaction of sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid work to trap carbon dioxide, causing bubbles to form.

The haze outside might be keeping us indoors, but our toddlers still found a way to experience the beach. The children were eager to sink their hands in to the sand, explore textures, and learn about different shells, rocks, and driftwood. They also discovered that clam and abalone shells were the best for scooping.

A busy or anxious brain can make it difficult to absorb information. Morning walks are a great tool to help ground the mind and work the body. Our Three's really enjoy when they take time outside.

A group of our school-age ladies wait eagerly to get hair tinsel put in by Teacher Ileana. She has been working through styling the girls with their chosen colors over the past few days.
