The Horne School of Music is pleased to welcome Matt Shumway to our faculty as an Adjunct Instructor of Bass.

Matthew Shumway (bass) is an in-demand performer in a variety of styles. He is the principal bass player of the Ballet West Orchestra, acting Principle Bassist for the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, and performs with the Orchestra on Temple Square. Matthew is an active studio musician and frequent performer of jazz, folk, and baroque styles. He holds a Master’s degree in Double Bass Performance from Northwestern University and Bachelor’s Degree from BYU-Idaho. Matthew has performed with many artists and groups including Renée Fleming, Alfie Boe, Collin Raye, Richard Marx, David Archuleta, Tabernacle Choir, and Idaho Falls Symphon.
Matthew has performed music of the baroque era extensively and played the Violone with BYU-Idaho’s Baroque Ensemble. He also plays and sings with the “Mama’s Boys,” his family’s bluegrass band.

The Horne School of Music is delighted to welcome Kandis Taylor as an Adjunct Instructor of Percussion. Taylor began her career by earning her Bachelors Degree in Music Education and Masters Degree in Percussion Performance from Brigham Young University. She has over 15 years experience teaching in public schools, directing and adjudicating bands and percussion ensembles at the junior high and high school level. While teaching in California, she received the "Teacher of the Year" award in 2015 after teaching at her school for only three years. She recently received the 2019 “Accent in Excellence" Award from the Alpine School District as Director of Bands & Percussion Ensembles at Lakeridge Junior High in Orem, Utah. She is actively involved in industry organizations including the Utah Music Educators Association, Utah Bandmasters Association, and Percussive Arts Society. When she isn’t teaching public school, Kandis composes music and has several compositions published through C.A. Publications. Kandis lives with her husband and 5 year old daughter in Draper, Utah.
