Our 4000 students are served in five elementary schools (Black Diamond, Byron Kibler, Southwood, Sunrise and Westwood), two middle schools (Enumclaw and Thunder Mountain) and Enumclaw High School. Included in the district are the cities of Enumclaw, Black Diamond and several unincorporated communities. The Enumclaw School District (District) maintains this page as an avenue to communicate

America 250: Voices of the Foothills Student Essay Contest

Celebrate America's 250th anniversary by inspiring the next generation to share their voices, reflect on community and country, and become part of Enumclaw's story.

Presented by the Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Enumclaw School District and the City of Enumclaw.

Elementary School (Grades 3–5)
“What makes America special to you, and what kind of America do you hope to help create someday?” Word Count: 250-500 words

Middle School (Grades 6–8)
“As America celebrates 250 years, what values do you believe are most important for the next generation to protect and strengthen? ”Word Count: 500-750 words

High School (Grades 9–12)
“America’s story is still being written. What role do young people and communities like Enumclaw play in shaping the future of our nation?” Word Count: 750-1,200 words

Contest Rules:
• Open to all ESD students, one submission per student
• Essays must be original student work
• AI-generated submissions are not permitted
• Essays must be respectful and age-appropriate
• Parent/guardian permission required for publication and recognition
• Submissions must include: student name, grade, school, and teacher

Winners will receive:
• Recognition as a Co-Grand Marshal in the Enumclaw Fourth of July Parade
• Publication of winning essays on the Chamber website
• Community recognition through local media and partner organizations
• Recognition from the Enumclaw Chamber, Enumclaw School District, and City of Enumclaw

Submit your essay by June 8, 2026, to the ESD District office or your school by 4 p.m. Winners will be announced in mid-June 2026
