A fellow piano teacher and I have commiserated that this entire month seems to have been one long full moon. Whatever could go wrong seems to have gone wrong but this last week has been the topper. While they are both ok, I spent 7 hours in the ER with my youngest on Friday and on Monday I spent 5 hours there with Granny. As any piano teacher would know, my schedule became scrambled like eggs in a food processor.
What came out of it was compassion. I am humbled and in awe of the amazing families in my studio. Friday, not one complaint about the lessons cancelled and rescheduled. Monday I had to end a lesson early to take care of my Granny and again had to cancel and reschedule lessons. Everyone went out of their way to work with me and showed such love and compassion. Today during a lesson I was distracted as I tried to help Granny, who is still recovering, and instead of getting upset or indignant the father of the student compassionately asked if we could reschedule the rest of the lesson because his daughter was having a hard morning, too.
As anyone knows that has been to the ER there’s always follow up appointments. That means more rescheduling. So more students had to be rescheduled tomorrow. Again I was met with love, compassion and support.
Almost everyone was rescheduled. No one was upset. Life is messy sometimes - maybe most times. I hope everyone can show the same level of compassion to each other that I’ve been shown this week. ❤️
