📚Storybook STEM Challenges🫛🪑🐓
(Part 2)

Our YES students worked in teams to complete the remaining STEM challenges. Some classes chose to see how high they could build a tower to replace Jack’s beanstalk. Others chose to see how strong of a chair they could build for Goldilocks. A few wanted to see if they could build a zip line strong enough to carry items for Little Red Hen. No matter the challenge, students showed off fun ways to improve their gifted skills.

📚Storybook STEM Challenges 🐷🏠

Our gifted students have completed another activity in our Storybook STEM unit. Our Y.E.S. students had to work together to create a house for one of the Three Little Pigs that the wolf could not get into and would not be blown down. With these projects, the final product is not really the point of these challenges. The process is. Learning how to work with classmates towards a common goal is what we’re aiming for. Even better is that they get to practice using their gifted thinking skills like creative problem solving to be successful. Stay tuned for more Storybook STEM challenges. ✨

📚Storybook STEM Challenges 👸🏼🏰

Our gifted students just completed their first activity in our Storybook STEM unit. This activity combined engineering challenges with growth mindset learning! They became problem solvers while working collaboratively on a Rapunzel-inspired challenge. Our Y.E.S. students had to engineer a creative solution to help Rapunzel escape from her tower. This was a fun way to build both critical thinking and confidence. Stay tuned for more Storybook STEM challenges. ✨

Did you know that there are actual gifted skills required for gifted education? 🤔 We’re not just having fun and doing cool stuff. Everything our gifted students do in Y.E.S. class helps them improve their skills in one of these 6 categories: Creativity, Affective Skills, Thinking Skills, Success Skills, Information Literacy, and Communication Skills. ✨ We’re so excited for a new school year to develop these skills.

🤗 Y.E.S. Community Service 🥳

This past week, our Y.E.S. students have been learning the importance of putting others before themselves through acts of service and kindness. They brainstormed ways they could help around the school and then turned those ideas into action!

⭐ 2nd & 3rd Grade participated in a “Little Buddy System,” where they partnered with 1st grade students to help teach them different challenges in the Y.E.S. classroom. This gave the younger students extra encouragement and their teachers a small, well-deserved break!

⭐ 4th Grade helped clean up our campus by picking up trash and also wrote encouraging notes to their teachers to brighten their day.

⭐ 5th & 6th Grade wrote uplifting messages on bags of chips and delivered them to staff members around campus as a simple act of encouragement.

We are so proud of the kindness, leadership, and servant hearts our Y.E.S. students displayed this week!

👾 BLOXELS VIDEO GAME CREATOR 🎮

Our Y.E.S. students have spent the last several weeks creating their own video game from scratch!

First, they worked with a partner to create a video game story that includes a hero character, enemies, hazards, collectibles, & power-ups. Next, they decorated their game using pixel art to match their theme. Finally, they got to publish their video game for anyone to play via the Bloxels APP!

You can download the Bloxels APP for free & play their video games using the codes below!
