Kumon Southern Highlands The largest after school program in the world! At young ages, students at Kumon are taught to read as early as age 4.

However, learning to read can start as early as 3 years old by learning the building blocks of reading such as learning sight words. We find that student are also capable of learning to count to 100 as early as age 3. (A placement test is required to find out if your child is mature enough and ready to learn)

In the long run, and at older ages, the Kumon Method instills in students the skills and

mindset for learning new materials without being directly taught. Students attend the center 2 times per week. However the student will take work home to review and strengthen what was learned in class. With that being said, the Kumon Program is also home-based education system that aims to develop students’ academic ability and independence. Kumon materials incorporate methods for introducing new content in a way that enables students to learn without directly being taught even after advancing beyond school grade level. Students are given an example when a concept is introduced for the first time in the worksheets. The worksheets increase in difficulty in small increments in order for students to learn on their own more easily. This makes it possible for students to form connections in their minds between the new concepts and topics they have already studied. Through individualized instruction, Kumon pursues the potential of each child to fully develop his or her academic ability and independence. The Kumon Instructor motivates students to have a sense of ownership and positive attitude towards study. During class, the Instructor observes and individually guides students by providing hints and helpful feedback. This instructional approach develops the students’ ability to reason and think logically. To fully experience all of the benefits of the program, Kumon strives to cultivate confident students who are learning material three years or more beyond grade level. Advancing beyond school grade level provides an opportunity for students to be introduced to new concepts earlier than at school in order to stay one step ahead. Being able to learn independently is a valuable skill that can drive success in school and then beyond.

Kumon Math and Reading Center at Southern Highlands Parkway is now hiring Grading & Instructional Assistants.

We are the largest after school program world-wide and has recently celebrated 62 years in business!

We are looking for patient, enthusiastic and friendly individuals to work with preschool and elementary school age students on basic math and reading skills in a positive and motivating environment. Junior High and High School students need help as well!

Job responsibilities will include grading student work and tutoring. All training and materials will be provided.

This position is part-time with after grades school hours. Candidates need to be proficient in basic math and reading skills. This job may be perfect for a dependable and hard working high school or college students looking for part-time after school work. But furthermore, this opportunity might also be great for College graduates looking to firm up their resume for future teaching opportunities. So we encourage the academically minded to apply.

The ideal candidate might be an honors student in High School with the ability to show up to a fixed schedule on Mondays and Thursdays.. Alternately, an ideal candidate might be a College Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior with high GPA. Experience working with children desired but not required.

Congratulations Alexa!
Alexa is only in 6th grade but is already a straight A student at one of our local Charter schools. And now, she has successfully completed the Reading program in Las Vegas at Kumon Southern Highlands. Currently she is soaring through the Math program at Kumon and is doing advanced fractions and pre-Algebra. She hopes to complete the Kumon Math program before starting High School.
Later this year in summer Alexa is looking forward to volunteering at the center to help other students. “Having completed the Reading Program at Kumon, I’m looking forward to helping other students by joining the Kumon team,” says Alexa. We look forward to seeing Alexa fly higher and higher!

Fifth-Grader Completes the Kumon Math Program at Kumon Southern Highlands Parkway.
Congratulations to James! James is a dual subject student and has now completed the Math program. This makes James one of the brilliant stars at our center. He graduated from the Kumon Math program this last summer of 2019.
James graduation from the Math program at Kumon means that not only did he have to master Algebra & Algebra II, but also Logarithmic Functions, Limits & derivatives, Integral Calculus, Geometric Sequences, Advanced Differentiation, Calculus II and so much more!
James favorite subject is Math. Outside of Kumon, James enjoys Computer Coding. He currently is learning how to program using Java Script.

Kumon has helped James understand his school work better, do math calculations faster & easier and feel more confident in school.

His future endeavor is to become a software engineer and perhaps later, an entrepreneur. One day, he hopes to start a software engineering firm.

We wish James good luck in his future endeavors and we salute his accomplishment!
