5th Graders — DMIB Tryout Information!

Want to be part of the DMIB Team? Do you enjoy making videos, being creative, or watching TikTok-style videos? DMIB might be for you! DMIB is our student broadcasting team! Team members will help create, record, and produce videos for our weekly news report that is shared with Miller students and staff.

⭐To be a member of DMIB:
* You must be a 5th grader.
* You must be able to stay after school on Tuesdays until 4:00 PM.
* You must have good conduct and passing grades.
* You must be willing to work as a team, be creative, and participate!

🎬 Your Tryout Challenge
Choose a fairy tale you know and turn it into a NEWS STORY!
Think like a news reporter: What happened? Who was involved? Where did it happen? How would you report the story?

📚 Fairy Tale Ideas
* Little Red Riding Hood
* Humpty Dumpty
* Hansel and Gretel
* Jack and the Beanstalk
* Goldilocks and the Three Bears
* The Tortoise and the Hare

You may choose another fairy tale, too!

✏️ Step 1: Brainstorm
Use a blank piece of paper to plan your news report.
Include:
Fairy Tale/Book Title
Beginning — What happened first?
Middle — What happened next?
Ending — How did the story end?
Catchy News Headline — Make us want to watch!

📝 Step 2: Write Your News Story
Turn your fairy tale into a news report.
Pretend you are a real news reporter telling viewers what happened. Be creative and let your personality show!
Then...PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
You do not have to memorize your entire report, but practice enough that you can speak clearly and confidently.

📹 Step 3: Record Your Tryout
Record yourself presenting your news story.
* You may use a device of your choice.
* There is no required time limit.
* Speak loudly and clearly.
* Have fun and show us your personality!
* Want to make your video even more creative? Canva is a great resource to use!

📅 Important Dates
Tryout Video Due: September 18th. Email your completed video to Mrs. Richardson.
DMIB Team Announced: September 23rd.

🎤 Lights. Camera. DMIB!
Good luck, future broadcasters! 🎬

Mrs. Gaitan and Mrs. Moncrief’s classes read “I’m Not Just a Scribble” and talked about what makes each of us unique. Then our little artists grabbed their watercolors and turned their own scribbles into one-of-a-kind masterpieces! 🌈✨

Please make sure your car tag is clearly visible so we can quickly and safely get your student to your car. If you do not have a car tag, you will need to pick up your student from the front office. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal running smoothly! 🖤🤍

The FIRST DAY of school is almost here! We can’t wait to see all of our new and returning students TOMORROW 🖤

Below you will find some helpful information for parents and students ✏️

1. Drop off - use the car loop drop off on the side of the school (the front of the school is for bus drop off only)

2. When dropping off - A crossing guard will prompt you when it is safe to drop your child off. Please do not drop off your child if there is not a staff member visible. Student(s) should be ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you pull in the car loop. This helps with efficiency and, more importantly, safety.

***Parents will need to drop off their children at the designated drop-off area on the first day. To ensure a smooth and organized process, we are not allowing parents to walk their children to class.***

3. Staff members will be at the side entrance to help direct students where they need to go. Additionally, there will be staff members throughout the building to ensure students get to their assigned classroom.

4. Communicate with your child’s homeroom teacher and your child how they are getting home the 1st day and the rest of the year.

5. Communicate with your child what they are doing for lunch. (lunch from home or cafeteria tray)

6. Make sure your child’s name is on their backpack, lunch kits, sweat shirts, jackets…

7. Make sure that your emergency contact information is in place and numbers are working.

•7:00 - Doors open/ Breakfast
•7:30 - Announcements
•7:45 - Tardy Bell / Class begins - side door closes
•3:25 - End of school/dismissal

*Students coming in after 7:45 will enter through the front door. Students coming in after 8:00 am must be signed in by a parent/guardian*

8. Pick up:
Please make sure you have your car tag visible.

4th Grade - Please use the lane farthest to the right. As you approach the side of the school, this will be the lane closest to the chain link fence.

5th Grade - Please use the lane farthest to the left. As you approach the side of the school, this will be the lane farthest from the chain link fence.

** The middle lane may also be used for either 4th or 5th grade student pick up.
