Longhorn Aviation

Longhorn Aviation Our mission is to introduce students to aviation and provide them pathways into the aviation industry.

We are seeking aviation professionals to be on our Advisory Committee. We meet once a year to ensure what I am teaching aligns with the current industry practice(s.) Many of our members' kids have aged out of the program, and we are looking to spread the wealth.

If interested, please send your contact info to [email protected]. Thank you for your time and consideration.

And the results of the 2nd (and likely last) annual OSU Aero Exploration Day:

First Year Individual:
2nd - Jaxson Robinson
1st - Bronc Snider

Zachary Miller’s individual score put him in the Top 3 of the advanced testers.

Overall Team:
4th (tied with Ada 2): Chisholm Team 2
Runner-Up: Chisholm Team 1

They said the Top 5 teams were really close. Last year, we beat Ada, and this year, they returned the favor. All in all, the students enjoyed it, and it was a well-run event.

Update from OSU Aero Exploration Day: The top 5 finalists (in no particular order) are Ada Team 1, Ada Team 2, Chisholm Team 1, Chisholm Team 2, and Oklahoma Aviation Academy. We need a pretty, aluminum propeller to go with the wooden one from last year. 😎

Today, 5 of our Aviation students competed in a Search and Rescue activity near Stillwater. Activities included: finding a lost hiker, finding a downed kayaker, and dropping a bandage to a snakebite victim. Each activity had a 12-minute time limit. Note that these were student-led. I could not speak to them.

Hiker: DNF (time ran out.) We were looking for a hiker, not a doll. (We should’ve been looking for a doll.) They said only one team before us had found the target.

Kayaker: Found in 8:21

Snakebite: Found in 5:31

As you can see, they got better at this as the went along. The snakebite guy was in some trees, which complicated things.

Our guys got several compliments from the adults on how well they worked together. We were the only team with a cheerleader banner. (Thanks, cheerleaders!) To say I’m proud of them is an understatement.
