Designing an extraordinary academic experience requires dedicated focus and continuous collaboration.

Today, our leadership team paired up during an afternoon retreat session to review Year 2 priorities for our strategic plan. From setting goals to receiving a friendly visit from Reggie, the lovable therapy dog who belongs to Jacklyn Beck (his trainer!) and Head of School Marek Beck, the team spent the day strengthening our vision for the upcoming year.

These collaborative conversations reflect our long-standing commitment to purposeful growth. Together, we are building the cognitive stamina, critical thinking, and character our students need to lead with confidence. 🌟

Welcome to EMS! Our newest faculty and staff spent today's orientation diving into our academic vision, connecting with colleagues, and preparing for an inspiring year ahead.

🌟 The day got an extra boost of energy with an impromptu visit from a few of our middle school students, who welcomed the newcomers and shared their favorite parts of the EMS experience — demonstrating the confidence and joy that define our student body.

From collaborative sessions to deep discussions on curriculum and student care, our educators are ready to build on our nearly 100-year legacy of educational excellence. We are thrilled to introduce these talented educators to our community!

When 7th grader Nathan B. ’27 set out to tackle his Bergen SciChallenge project, he brought a deeply personal passion to his research: "Me having asthma, I wanted to help other asthmatics," he stated.

Driven by his own experience, Nathan used a multivariable machine learning approach to quantify environmental injustice and predict asthma risk across New Jersey census tracts. His groundbreaking work earned him 1st Place in Environmental Sciences at the Bergen SciChallenge, along with a prestigious nomination to the national Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge! 🏆

Nathan credits his EMS foundation with giving him the confidence to defend his methodology and trust the scientific process. "When things don't work out, the most important thing to do is pivot," he shares. "Embrace mistakes!" 💡

We are so proud of Nathan’s dedication, critical thinking, and passion for making a real-world impact.

Throughout the summer, our campus has been filled with delightful moments of community connection thanks to our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program! 🧺🌱

Built on the incredible foundation created by our 4th-grade leadership symposium students, baskets have been filled with fresh produce for families all summer long. Every basket overflows with crops grown right here on campus at The Little Farm — from fresh lettuces and peppers to herbs, melons and even baked goods.

Head of School Marek Beck, Ph.D., returned to Cambridge this summer, where he has served on the instructional team for Harvard’s educational leadership programs for more than a decade. This year’s sessions brought together school leaders from around the world to explore school culture, leadership, and meaningful change.

As a facilitator and mentor, Dr. Beck works alongside school leaders as they examine challenges, share perspectives, and strengthen their leadership practice. The ideas and insights that emerge from this work at Harvard come back to EMS, shaping how we continue to grow, lead, and create exceptional learning experiences for our students.

It was incredible having our young alumni back on campus this summer as counselors for Summer Explorations! ☀️ Leadership at EMS isn't a destination reached in eighth grade — it’s a skill practiced daily. Seeing our former students return to mentor, encourage, and guide our youngest campers was a true full-circle moment.

Our Little School (Grades 1-4) students celebrated the end of the school year with musical performances for our Celebration of Music concert. They sang "Dance!" by Robert T. Gibson, "Soup from a Stone" by Albrecht & Althouse, and Humuhumunukunukapua'a by Karl Hitzeman. The flutists played "Stamping Song", clarinets played "Can Can," by Jacques Offenbach, the 4th Grade String Trio played, "Salut D'amour" by Edward Elgar and the entire Little School Symphony closed out the concert played "Fame" from movie Fame; there was so much more to enjoy! The event ended with the traditional "handshake" ceremony, as our fourth graders said farewell to Little School with a handshake before being welcomed to Morrow House by Head of Middle School Jed Silverstein, Ph.D.
