From lab partners to life partners, a Kent Denver love story ❤️

For Camryn Capoot ’18 and Matt Honnen ’18, the formula for a lifelong connection was discovered in an unlikely place: Dr. Jeff Caulfield’s senior year AP Chemistry class.

They started dating during their senior year at Kent Denver, and their connection to the school remained as strong as ever years later. In fact, it was the backdrop for a big milestone this past year: their engagement. 💍

During a walk on the back side of campus with Emma Boatman '18, Matt surprised Camryn by waiting in Chenery Theater where they had graduated. In a touching tribute to their origin story, he was waiting with one of their senior year lab reports printed out and their families hiding nearby to witness the proposal.

The couple gets married later this fall. 👏 👏

Mike Sheehan ’79, affectionately known as “Papa” to generations of Kent Denver lacrosse players, concluded his final year of coaching in 2025. His journey from a star player to a foundational coach exemplifies the enduring impact alumni can have on student-athletes.

The Legacy of “Papa” — Honoring Mike Sheehan ’79 As a player and coach, Mike Sheehan '79 created an unmatched legacy as the "Papa" of Kent Denver lacrosse.

Congratulations to Lee Lee Newcomb for receiving the Ann Elgood Youth Theater Director Award from the American Alliance for Theatre and Education. This prestigious national award honors "a model of excellence and innovation” in "outstanding achievement as a director of youth theater.”

Ms. Newcomb has 38 years of experience as a youth theater director at Kent Denver School, Stanley British Primary School, the Mizel Family Arts Center, Stage Eleven Children’s Theater, and Graland Country Day School.

Since 2003, Ms. Newcomb has been an integral part of Kent Denver’s summer programs, first as a teacher and leader of arts-related summer programming, and currently as Director of Summer at Kent Denver. Her visionary leadership serves thousands of students annually with a wide array of offerings, including the Tiny Farm, a beacon of year-round environmental education created by Ms. Newcomb in 2021. She has also directed several Upper and Middle School theater productions, including, most recently, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in November.

Ms. Newcomb’s kindness, creativity, resilience, humor, honesty, perseverance, leadership, and student-centeredness will be honored at AATE's national conference later this summer. Congratulations, Lee Lee!

Although school is out for the summer, Kent Denver has been a hub for professional learning and collaboration this week!

On June 4 and 5, Kent Denver partnered with The Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning to host the first-annual Colorado Science of Learning Institute. This conference brought together K-12 public, charter and independent school educators from across the state to learn about the most promising research, strategies, principles, and mindsets in the Science of Learning.

Also on Thursday and Friday, Kent Denver's Duncan Center hosted our annual "Sparkathon," two days of focused time for teachers and staff to collaborate on a variety of curricular initiatives for the coming school year!
