A Personal Update: Thank You for the Honor of Serving on the Cherry Creek School District Board of Education
To our Cherry Creek families, educators, leaders, and community members,
Serving this district over the past several years has been such a meaningful experience. Today, I want to share a decision and extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you.
After a summer of reflection, I’ve decided not to seek re-election to the Cherry Creek School District Board of Education. This wasn’t an easy decision—but it’s the right one for me at this time. While I won’t be serving a second term, I remain deeply committed to our students and our schools. And I'm excited for what's ahead—for me, and for this incredible community.
When I first ran for the board, I was driven by my unwavering belief in the power of public education—and in our local community schools—to change lives. I’ve worked hard to bring passion, pragmatism, a commitment to listening and learning, and most of all, a relentless focus on making sure every child—no matter their zip code—has access to the education they deserve.
Over the years, that commitment has only grown stronger.
Together, we’ve made meaningful progress in the areas I promised to focus on when I first ran for this seat—areas I continue to care deeply about: advancing literacy, strengthening our shared commitment to academic excellence, and ensuring that every child has access to the opportunities they need to thrive.
Throughout my term, I worked hard to champion initiatives that I believe will have a lasting, positive impact on our district:
1. Fighting for Early Literacy and Timely Intervention
Working closely with state legislators, I helped pass a landmark law requiring a universal dyslexia screener for all Colorado students in grades K–3. Early intervention can change a child’s entire trajectory, and this legislation ensures our kids get the help they need before they fall behind.
2. Advancing Equity in Education
From day one, I prioritized efforts to close opportunity gaps and expand access for students who have historically been underserved. Under my leadership, the district made a bold and public commitment: achieving universal grade-level literacy by 2030—because reading is not a privilege, it’s a right.
3. Increasing Transparency and Public Trust
I led efforts to launch a district-wide, disaggregated data dashboard that gives parents, educators, and community members real-time access to critical information. This effort enhanced accountability and built trust through open, honest communication.
4. Championing Curiosity-Driven Learning
I’ve consistently challenged a culture of teaching to the test, advocating instead for hands-on learning experiences that spark imagination and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
As I often say, and truly believe, education is the foundation of a thriving community and economy. When a child learns to read, write, and comprehend, they unlock their ability to think critically; participate fully; and build a brighter future for themselves and society.
Though I’m stepping away from the Board, my commitment to this community and to public service remains strong. I’m looking forward to new opportunities to support our students, families, and neighbors across Cherry Creek and beyond. This is not the end—just the start of a new chapter. I will continue working to make our community stronger, more inclusive, and full of opportunity for every child.
While I am sharing this news with some of you directly, I know I haven’t reached everyone. So please feel free to pass this along.
Together,
Kristin A. Allan

Spending time with Ms. Rodriguez’s first-grade class and Ms. Baker’s fourth-grade classes at High Plains Elementary was a fantastic experience. As we read A Face is a Poem, the students were fully engaged, their excitement and curiosity bringing the story to life.
Moments like these reflect Cherry Creek School District’s mission—to inspire every student to think, learn, achieve, and care. Through storytelling, we foster inclusive excellence, spark curiosity, and build connections that support lifelong learning.
Next up: Fox Hollow Elementary and then Dakota Valley! Can’t wait to keep sharing the joy of reading! 📖💙
