First Readers is a unique town-wide program that recognizes and celebrates a key milestone in learning—becoming a reader! Once a child has been certified by his or her teacher as being able to read one of a selection of books fluently for the first time, we acknowledge each child’s huge accomplishment by celebrating with the Enfield Community. Children receive a First Readers certificate and medal

Meet the mastermind behind the mic-Terry LaCasse

Terry moved to CT with his wife Annie and their kids in 2018. His family moved to the Enfield in 2019. Terry has spent the last 7 years watching his kids go from First Readers to soccer players, to gymnasts, to TOPS soccer friends, Best Buddies, to future city planners, and stay kind all the while. He’s spent 7 years watching his wife, a Special Education teacher in Manchester schools, fight for her students to be First Readers at their own speed, and advocate for a more inclusive and caring educational system like the one First Readers promotes from an early age. Terry is excited to be helping out again as the Emcee for the evening. His lack of trivia knowledge and apathy towards pedantic analysis of trivia questions makes for an interesting night indeed.

He'll see you there!
