One more sleep until our students are back!

A big thank you to Superintendent Moccio for his leadership, care, and preparation for the year ahead. His WFSB Superintendent Spotlight is a great opportunity to hear directly about what students, families, and staff can expect this year.

I’m especially grateful for the courageous leadership that moves our district forward—and I’m proud of the Board’s support of this work and the way we are growing together as a leadership team.

More to come from our recent Board retreat and the work ahead. For tonight, I’m wishing our superintendent, staff, students, and families a wonderful first day tomorrow. Let’s go, Enfield!

Roger talks to Enfield's Superintendent Steven Moccio about improvements coming to the district this year.

There is something special about the tradition of gathering for Convocation. After a summer of transitions, we come together to welcome a new school year, reconnect as a community, and remind ourselves of the people at the heart of our schools.

I found myself standing in the auditorium as a mom and BOE chair thinking about how lucky our community is to have so many people who choose to spend their days caring for, challenging, encouraging, and believing in our kids. Those reflections shape me and remind me that the work of the BOE is ultimately about creating the conditions for educators and students to show up, take risks, learn, connect and grow.

This morning held all of it—tears, smiles, excitement, a little anxiousness, and so much hope for the year ahead.

I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our Staff Member of the Year, Quinn Hannagan, and Teacher of the Year, Nicole Catuccio. Their reflections, along with the stories shared about them, were a beautiful reminder of what makes an educator impactful: being willing to share your expertise while continuing to learn from students and colleagues; creating meaningful challenges that invite students to step up; and being intentional about building classrooms where kids talk, interact, question, think critically and feel known.

And perhaps my favorite reminder of all: students don’t need perfect teachers. They need present ones.

To everyone returning to EPS, and to those who chose Enfield for the first time—thank you. Thank you for showing up for our kids and for our community. And remember, the more we know, the more we carry—so allow others to show up for you, too.

And a huge shoutout to our central office team for orchestrating the morning, the students who helped make this so special, my fellow BOE members who joined, and to Chef O for starting our morning with a delicious breakfast. What a wonderful way to begin a new school year.

Here’s to another year of showing up for our kids—and for each other.

Last night was a wonderful evening in our community! A big thank you to the Enfield Police Department, the Enfield Cultural Arts Commission, and all of the community partners who made National Night Out such a great event. Tess and I had a blast connecting with neighbors, enjoying the activities, listening to music, and celebrating the strong sense of community that makes Enfield special.

And while we were there… we voted! 🗳️

Early voting is underway at Town Hall (820 Enfield Street)!

A reminder: there are TWO upcoming primaries, so don’t get confused!

➡️ All Enfield Democrats can vote in the first primary for governor by early voting through 8/9, or in person, at your polling location on 8/11.
➡️ Enfield Democrats who live in the 58th District can also vote in the primary for State Representative. Early voting for this primary is 8/24-8/30 and in person voting on 9/1!

Thank you again to everyone who helped make National Night Out a success. Events like these remind us how important connection, partnership, and community are.

Very excited to facilitate tonight’s retreat!

Tonight, our Board of Education is holding something new for our board—a retreat focused not on making decisions, but on strengthening how we work together in service of Enfield Public Schools.

Strong schools are built through thoughtful governance, collaboration, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. We’re looking forward to an evening of meaningful conversation as we reflect on how we can best support our students, staff, families, and community—both today and for years to come.

We look forward to sharing some of the themes from our discussion in the coming weeks.

Yesterday, my kiddos finished up basketball camp, and it has been an incredible experience yet again!

Led by Enfield High School coaches and student-athletes, the camp is so much more than sports. It’s a fun, coed environment where kids build teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship while being encouraged every step of the way.

One of my favorite moments this week was hearing my son excitedly tell me that one of the student coaches complimented his hustle going after a ball. The pride on his face said it all.

A huge thank you to everyone who makes this camp possible. It is so much more than a week of sports—it’s an opportunity for our younger students to build skills, make memories, and be inspired by the student leaders who are investing in them. I’m especially proud of our Enfield High School students for the example they’re setting and the positive impact they’re having on the next generation.
