U-E Tigers Visit JFS 6th Graders!

In keeping with UE’s mission of building family and community connections, some student-athletes from the high school paid a visit to the 6th graders in Mr. Hamlin and Mr. Kizis' classes on Friday, October 16. It was a great day, filled with spirit and Tiger Pride. The young men and women shared the responsibilities that go along with being a student-athlete and stressed the importance of setting goals. In addition, they provided the 6th graders with some very helpful advice on how to become successful in middle school discussing topics such as homework, organization, and asking for extra help.

The student-athletes re-enforced the importance of being involved, making friends, ways to handle bullying, and what Tiger Pride means to them. They also answered many questions the 6th graders had for them about life at both JFS and UEHS. The β€œBig Tigers” acted as role models and are a true testament of what U-E Tiger Pride is all about. Most of all, everyone had a good time learning and sharing with each other.

On Thursday, members of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) along with Tom Mitchell of the UE Family Support Center presented a workshop at The NYSA CCE 4‑H Annual Fall Conference. The workshop was titled: Bridging Classrooms and Communities: Effective 4-H Partnerships with Schools. The workshop explored practical models for building and sustaining strong school partnerships that connect in-school and out-of-school learning. UE's Tiger Ventures program was used as an example of this kind of partnership by aligning 4-H programming with school priorities, navigating structures such as BOCES and aidability, and designing programs that integrate hands-on learning, youth voice, and family engagement!

Drip N' Sip is open for business!

The student-run cafΓ© at Tiger Ventures, Drip N' Sip, officially opened for the year on October 14th! Tiger Venture students did an incredible job building a brand-new cafΓ© bar and cart to kick off the season, thanks to the Town of Union.

To celebrate the full opening, students collaborated in our Food Lab with Mrs. Supa from the Cornell Cooperative Extension to make delicious Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake.

George F. Johnson Elementary has been hosting Food Fridays, giving our teachers and staff the opportunity to purchase a little treat from local businesses during the school day!

Our staff has absolutely loved having something fun to look forward to, and it’s been a great way to support local businesses while treating our hardworking teachers!

If any businesses are interested, they can contact Courtney Hine at [email protected]
