~ There is a reason why some people can't seem to fathom that more gun laws will have NO effect on crime. It is deeper than just trying to understand the simple and time proven fact that only law abiding citizens OBEY the laws and criminals could care less if they break the laws. It goes beyond simply understanding that without arming free citizens you are one step away from tyranny. It speaks to the fundamental understanding of the nature of human beings. People who advocate for things like trying to "just talk" to criminals or to ISIS for example are delusional. Yes, those people, the ones who think that all the criminals or ISIS members believe in a "Kumbaya" world and all they need to stop killing us is for us see them as a person, to be respected, to be "understood" -- they are just plain ignorant when it comes to the realities of human beings, crime and violence.
Look at our history.
As far back as recorded time man has been a violent creature. Yes, we are the world's most dangerous animal. We have subjugated every other species on the planet, outright destroyed many of them and dominated all other creatures through the use of violence and technology. We have molded this world to our will through force.
We no longer fear the tiger in the jungle, but rather the human in the hood, or in our own backyard. You need only turn on the TV news, or surf the web to find countless stories about man's "inhumanity" to man.
It makes you think doesn't it? If we are so "evolved" as some people think, why do so many of us still rob, r**e and murder each other each - every day in every city and town in the world? hmm. remember the old cliche; "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... it's a duck!" We are animals. Many, more primal than others.
Despite suffocating ourselves in laws, attorneys, lawsuits, prisons and statutes to address everything we do in life AND despite our incredible advances in technology, man is still the most violent creature on this planet. In fact, we are much more vicious than most animals because we hurt and kill each other for things other than survival. History is filled with countless examples of man's violence against his own kind for love, greed, hate, prejudice, politics, power, geography, money, envy, s*x and numerous other motives. Animals fight and kill to survive, to eat and to breed. Even serious predators like wolves don't run through a herd of sheep slashing throats just because they don't like the color of the sheep's wool. Humans do things like that.
Human violence has been a reality since the dawn of time and it will NOT change because it is in or DNA. We may not have the claws of a tiger or the agility and sheer power of a gorilla but be not mistaken we are the world's greatest predator. Our eyes are fixed in the front of our face like a predator's. That and countless other factors, plus our incredible brains and our opposable thumbs that allow us the ability to build technology for peace and for war - make us the ultimate predator.
But many of us have grown soft, wallowing in our illusion of safety and civilization.
We have grown fat and lazy and are starting to resemble prey more and more. We spend our time with our eyes and our minds in our machines, in safe, make believe worlds of ones and zeros instead of the in this world. We have become the ultimate ostrich, burying our heads in our gadgets rather than sand, hiding from the real world because we are to weak and soft to deal with it.
We whine about words that label and names we call each other, saying that such words are actually "Acts of violence" and hurt us. GROW UP! Words can't hurt you unless you let them! If you are hurt by words you are already the perfect victim. If words hurt you then how are you ever going to stop someone's fists or bullets? The truth is, your NOT. If you ever find yourself God forbid face to face with a real violent criminal bent on your destruction, you're dead. End of story.
If you want to ever have a chance to survive the real world you have to live IN it first!
Let's look at some cold hard REALITIES. If you are one of those who believe in a "kumbaya" world where everyone is equal and everyone gets along, where prejudice and crime and hate do not exist, then stop reading now and hope real hard that in the rest of your life you will never be touched by crime and violence. Go right on believing that you are SPECIAL and YOUR life is somehow charmed and that it can never happen to you. Believe it, just like countless other victims of crime who also thought they were special and charmed. Good luck with that for how ever many years you have left.

Good. That means you are one of the smarter ones who recognizes that you are living on planet earth with billions of other people, many of whom are unpredictable. What I'm going to say next is as true as it is harsh. If you're still one of those people who holds out for a "Star Trek" world, the following realities may be beyond your ability to comprehend let alone accept as truth. To those people I want to say that ignoring truth does not make it go away. Truth has teeth and if you don't acknowledge it it can bite and kill you in a heartbeat. Moreover, truth does not care about YOU. It does not care that YOU are a "nice" person, or YOU are kind and try to get along with everyone. Bad people, criminals and killers don't care either. In fact, they love YOU because you are the EASY ones. You are the ones who stand there like a deer in the headlights allowing them to mow you down like cold winter grass. You are the perfect victim.
DON'T BE THAT PERFECT VICTIM.
Me on the other hand, I learned something early in life that taught me one of the most important lessons that anyone can learn:
"Reality is not open to interpretation and you had better accept and acknowledge and understand it or it will automatically work against you."
So here is a reality about people... the truth is that ALL human beings can be divided into THREE TYPES; Good, Evil and Ambiguous.
On one end you have the people who are fundamentally good. My father is one of these people and so is my wife, and I have been fortunate to know many like them in my life. Good people will almost always do the right thing. They are law abiding and often good Samaritans who are always willing to help others even at their own expense.
Now for the opposite. The yang to their yin. You have to understand and accept that if there are good people in the world- then the exact opposite also exists. Some people are pure evil. Some are just wired bad from birth, some are nurtured that way and some are simply mentally ill or certifiably insane. It is reality that some people's first impulse will ALWAYS be to do the wrong thing. They choose break the law, lie, cheat, steal, rob, r**e and kill and some will do it "for the fun of it." As hard as that may be for you understand, it is absolutely true. YOU cannot understand them, YOU cannot empathize with them, YOU cannot talk them out of it, in fact, YOU cannot do anything but prepare and be ready to fight back if you find yourself face to face with them.
Now here's the kicker... only the STUPID ones are "visible" to most people. Just like good people, they come in all shapes and sizes. Pure evil exists in all strata of our society (as does the good). There are good cops and bad cops, good parents and bad parents, good teachers and bad teachers, good presidents and bad ones.
Get it?
That is the truth and that is the way it as has always been since time immemorial and sadly, it will never change. We coexist with evil people every day of our lives, everywhere. In many cases they are chameleons who may appear to be the opposite of who they really are. When it comes to good and evil you cannot always judge a book by its cover. The sooner you accept that, the safer you will be.
The third type.
IThey are the morally ambiguous. They are people who are not "wired" evil or good, but can swing either way depending on life and circumstances and how much they can internally justify or rationalize. Cheating on taxes, lying about something to someone you care about, whatever - as long as they can justify it in their head they do whatever they can get away with. If they are subjected to people and an environment where they are rewarded for being good they will most likely be good. If immersed in an environment where they can do wrong and get away with it - they will.
So welcome to human kind. Three types of people; Fundamentally good, fundamentally evil and ambiguous. That is the way human beings have been since we arrived on this little blue planet.
So the next time you hear someone saying we can legislate good behavior or negotiate with people like ISIS remember, there are people in the world who are just mean, cruel and evil and could care less about the law, morals or you. They only care about themselves or their particular "TRIBE." To them you are the outsider, you are the infidel, the mark, the victim and they are happy that you are so stupid and ignorant to believe that they care one iota about what you think.
So
Which one are you?
