Stop three: The Sawdust Festival and the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. The Sawdust Festival is always a great time with yummy food, fun music, and of course, lots of art! The Pageant is a must see if you haven’t gone. This year’s theme is ART COLONY: IN THE COMPANY OF ARTISTS and they are celebrating their 90th anniversary! You will have the best time at both!

One more note on Mingei. You MUST EAT at ARTIFACT if you make a visit to the museum. They were just recognized as a "new discovery" by Michelin. Like the museum itself, the culinary offerings are proudly eclectic and international, ranging from carefully pleated rock shrimp gyoza with a yuzu-flavored dashi, to lamb kibbeh with quinoa tabbouleh. Plant-based options, like Thai green curry with sweet potato and crispy noodles, are clearly no afterthought, and desserts like cardamom tapioca with saffron granita hold their own. As if to drive home the kitchen’s far-ranging sensibilities, an exclusive dinner series highlights a different global cuisine every month.

In Japan, artist Gaku creates elaborate food carvings using fruit and vegetables as his canvas. These decorative garnishes are used to exemplify the four seasons. It is thought that the artful produce not only improves the appearance of the cuisine, but aids in improving flavor. A fun fact - Gaku snacks on his creations once they are finished.

Working on more beachy/sea themed clay projects! The kids are going to have so much fun making these! Can't wait!
