Namaste,
Welcome to our second virtual Mystic lesson on karma. If you’d like, please kindly follow along this post with the attached video below.
Karma is the natural law of cause and effect within our living universe. This law pervades all living beings in all dimensions. Karma also connects the past to the present to the future. Ponder on that for a moment or a thousand moments.
This means that our state of happiness has its roots in yesterday’s thoughts and experiences. There are many moments that we don't remember in this lifetime, much less in our other lifetimes. This is not proof that other lifetimes do not exist.
A person with dementia does not remember yesterday. Does this mean the events of yesterday did not happen? Karma is cause and effect. It doesn't need our awareness or our permission to bring our past actions into our future. We cannot figure out the “why?!” of every event that occurs in our life. We can learn to accept the effects of our habits and practice awareness to create self change.
As we ponder on this idea of karma, PLEASE resist making extreme conclusions and judgments about others. When someone is going through a situation in which they are being victimized, kindly understand that the reasons are more complex than merely assuming they were bad in a another life. When we reach petty conclusions, it only reveals what novices we are to these profound laws of nature.
Awareness is only fifty percent of transformation. Perhaps this means we must become aware of the problem before it can be solved. The other fifty percent of transformation is acting on that which we have become aware of. This is the difficult part because we can have the awareness, but we lack experience with our practice.
Let’s keep practicing holding our ground with goodness. Be aware that memories of self doubt may feel like leaden chains around the ankles, but stay steady and remain committed to the practice of love. It would behoove us to let go of wishing to see someone suffer who has caused us harm. Let’s learn to let go of waiting to see people fall from grace. Everything, and I do mean everything, comes back at the perfect moment. Remember karma doesn't wait for our permission, it always knows the right moment.
Let’s start to learn some terms about the different types of karma. There are more than what is listed here, but this is a good starting place for all of us. These terms are building blocks for the understanding of karma. The explanations are my own ways of interpreting what I have been taught and experiences I have had. Please investigate these terms on your own.
Sanchita Karma: Actions that have been Accumulated in all other lives.
This is the great seed bank of karma. This is where all the seeds from your thoughts, words and actions are being stored. This bank also holds the karma not only of your human births, but also of your prior animal births. Yes we really do have monkey minds, the stubbornness of buffalos, and the love of our pack like the wolf. These seeds contain the karmic DNA that will contribute to the circumstances of both your current and future life. Our actions in this life will also be deposited into our Sanchita bank account upon our death. Our current set of circumstances as well as our physical and mental capabilities come from this great karma bank account.
In this cosmic bank account rests all of our group karma that we have accumulated with other individuals, including our family, friends, enemies, country of origin, race, and gender. This idea of how karma comes into this life requires a lot of pondering. We are the results of everything we have ever experienced and we’re only semi-awake about it. That sounds a bit intriguing, terrifying, and bewildering. That’s human karma for you.
Prarabdha Karma: Actions that have come to Fruition in this life time.
These have originated in other lifetimes and are now coming to harvest no matter what. Their time is at hand. This is a living harvest from other lifetimes. This type of karma manifests as situations which seem to be fated or destined. They won’t necessarily make sense to us.They may be experienced as positive or negative.
Prarabdha karma is a scoop of Sanchita karma that has been separated from your larger Sanchita bank account. This Prarabdha karma will be experienced during this lifetime. It’s like a cosmic bank withdrawal for you. That is why we call this fate or destiny. The only thing that you can change about these karmas is how you go through them in terms of your reactions, and even these reactions have their roots in the past. This is why we need a practice!
Prarabdha karma is like an arrow in flight. The course of this arrow cannot be changed once it has left the bow. When an arrow is in flight, the wind and other circumstances will make it hit its exact karmic target (no matter how good of a bowman you are). There are some things in this life that are predetermined. This is because these are actions from previous lives that are just now coming to Fruition.
No matter what, there will always be certain events or people that will enter into our lives. Our free will cannot stop a tornado from coming through our life. On the bright side, we also receive love, help and guidance in this life that we have earned from other lives. This karma also represents your preferences, habits, gifts, problems, and physical and mental capabilities.
In this current life, you are accumulating more seeds for your future deposits into your Sanchita bank account.
Which door do I choose? Choose wisely!
Agami Karma: Actions that are currently being accumulated for the Future.
This is the karma that you are accumulating through your current choices and actions. They can come back to you instantly in this life, or they may move into your near future or future lifetimes.
Agami is current karma. If I throw a spiteful insult on someone and that person returns the disfavor, I will feel hurt and that is instant karma to me. I instantly feel the pain that I caused. Nobody gets away with anything. Remember the more you crave to see someone being treated the way you have been mistreated, the more those thoughts will be waiting for you in the not so distant future or somewhere in a future lifetime as an unpleasant situation. Remember to be careful of reaching conclusions. Remember that old saying about the word assume. Okay? Question, question, question.
This is a lot to ponder and intuit. Kindly ask me questions and let’s have a conversation about this. If you're wondering something about karma, then chances are very good someone else is also wanting that information! Thank you for being here with us while we practice our understanding of all forms of karma.
