Today, we remember the fallen.
We honor their families.
And we remain grateful for the freedoms their sacrifice helped protect.

In last Saturday's Teen/Adult Class, while wrapping up a class, Master Pattison asked if anyone knew the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Veterans Day honors all who served.
Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives and never made it home.

It’s a day of remembrance for the men and women who sacrificed everything in service to this country, and for the families who continue carrying that sacrifice every day.

Today, may we pause to remember those who gave everything for freedoms many of us experience daily without a second thought.

May we never forget.

Days like today remind me why CMA has been home for so many families for so many years.

Our Black Belt Testing group brought everything they had, focus, grit, and the kind of spirit you can’t teach from a textbook.

• 9 candidates for 1st Degree
• 4 for 2nd Degree
• 2 for 3rd Degree

And the support crew? Absolutely outstanding. The way our students encourage, guide, and lift each other is what makes this place more than a studio, it’s a community.

The next generation of CMA leaders is coming in stronger together.

Fear is felt at EVERY age. It's how you respond to it that counts.

We teach The Center for Martial Arts kids to push through. And that's where confidence begins.

Encinitas and Carmel Valley MOMS & DADS! One of the biggest benefits of martial arts is emotional regulation. 👈

Kids learn how to pause, breathe, and reset — instead of reacting right away.

Those skills are HUGE, especially as kids grow.

I talk to a lot of Parents. And while we're here to focus on their child's wellbeing... we also see the difference between Parents who set their own personal goals, and those who don't.

If you're a Parent with a habit of neglecting your own goals, here's how to set one:

What’s one thing you kept putting off last year… last month… even last week?
Find the thing that keeps nagging at you.

Write it down.

Then write every step it would take to complete it.

Congrats! You just set a realistic goal!!!

In martial arts, we don’t stop when we mess up, miss a class, forget a form, or feel discouraged.

We adjust, and keep going 'til it’s done.
And you don’t have to be a martial artist to use that mindset in life.

But the best way to know for sure is to try.

It’s not multiple alarms. Or sticky note reminders. Or waiting for when you feel like you're ready.

It’s discipline!!!

Discipline is showing up even when you don’t feel like it.
Putting your sneakers on instead of staying in your PJ’s.
Doing the thing today instead of pushing it off until “tomorrow.”

You build it from small choices — choosing to do what you know you need to do.

Those steps beat 'motivation' every time.

Small steps = Big growth!!!

Whether you're just starting out or getting back into training, remember that every technique you master and every class you show up to adds up. Progress isn't always a leap - sometimes it's just showing up and doing the work. Keep going! 💪

I love New Year goals!! But I don't see a fresh start as starting from zero. To me, it means noticing what worked and what didn't. Learning your patterns. Seeing what's actually in your control.

Some years you make big leaps and some years it's small steps.

Either way, a fresh start is just a chance to try things a little differently.

If you're stuck in old habits, maybe it's time to try something new here at The Center for Martial Arts.
