Congratulations to Ms. Josie Schrag, English Language Arts teacher at Emporia High School, for being selected as the district’s 2027 Kansas Horizon Award secondary nominee! She will now complete the application process for a chance to be named a Horizon Award recipient. Winners will be honored in February 2027. The Kansas Horizon Award, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, celebrates outstanding first-year teachers who show excellence in the classroom and stand out as exceptional educators. Congratulations to Mrs. Heather Rios, ESL Instructional Strategist at Emporia High School, for being nominated as the district’s 2028 Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY) representative. The Kansas Teacher of the Year Award recognizes and honors outstanding teachers in the state's elementary and secondary classrooms. Its mission is to build and use a network of exemplary teachers who lead improvements in schools, student performance, and the teaching profession. Mrs. Rios will complete the application process in hopes of being selected as the 2028 Kansas Teacher of the Year. Nominees will be honored, and regional finalists will be announced in April 2027. Heather Rios, especialista en estrategias de ESL en la Escuela Preparatoria de Emporia (Emporia High School), por haber sido nominada como representante del distrito para el premio Maestro del Año de Kansas (KTOY) de 2028. El premio Maestro del Año de Kansas reconoce y honra a docentes destacados de las aulas de primaria y secundaria del estado.
