We can't let the last week of school pass without honoring one of our own!
Mrs. Taylor is an alum AVID teacher, with her last class graduating in 2017 and she truly is one of the best! Stepping into her classroom you can tell right away she is passionate about the success of her students. Mrs. Taylor’s unwavering support and belief in her students, even when they don’t believe in themselves, has pushed many students to achieve things they never thought were possible. Whether it was first grade or high school seniors, she established an unparalleled sense of community and belonging, or as we say in AVID, made it feel like a family. While Mrs. Taylor's knowledge of AVID strategies will be missed, it is her mentorship and guidance that both staff and students will miss the most. Enjoy your retirement Carol Taylor, you have earned it! (We hope you’ll visit and help us with a TRF here and there 😉.)
Carol Taylor Staff Retirement Spotlight!
Carol’s favorite memory is how proud she is of her students and their successes over the years. School does not come easy for many, but they develop perseverance and believe in themselves, leading them to accomplishments they never thought possible. Whether reading and completing a 350-page book for the first time or graduating with a Master's Degree after wanting to drop out of high school, they are all successes that deserve to be recognized and celebrated.
Carol’s advice is to cherish your colleagues as friends or as part of your family because family and friendships are the best facilitators of your happiness.
Thank you to the 14 individuals who have retired or will retire at the end of the year. Collectively, this group has devoted 317 years to Emporia Public Schools. For over 3 decades, they have had a huge impact on the lives of students, parents, staff, and our community.
