One Dark and Starry Night... is an ESU Art History Association Exhibition featuring the artwork of Kansas undergraduate students through the lens of historical artwork. Please see information below for more details on the exhibitions theme. The show will be on display from September 28-October 25, 2026 in the Eppink Gallery in King Hall at Emporia State University.

Exhibition Info:
This take on a familiar phrase brings up memories of stories, particularly stories that invoke vivid imagery. Conversely, visual art can be used to tell stories of its own and invoke emotion and memory in the viewer. The Emporia State University Art History Association (AHA) invites submissions for our annual juried exhibition, One Dark and Starry Night…

We encourage artists to submit work that relates to narrative or storytelling in some way. These works should use story as the focus and can certainly incorporate
text as well.

The first Art Forum lecture of the Fall 2026 semester is happening next week! Our speaker will be Nick Phan. Nick is a Vietnamese American printmaker from Kansas City, Missouri. Nick primarily works with relief prints and book arts, and finds ways to incorporate the two together. Nick uses his artwork as a means to enhance his life and connect him better to the people around him. His work is a vehicle of self-expression taken physical form and often shared to friends far away. Often portraying images that represent scenes from his daily life, he finds beauty in the mundane and elevates his life into something worthy of paying attention to. He is currently an instructor of Printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute.

His lecture will take place September 4th from 4-5pm at the Lyon County History Center, and is open to the public. Please join us and we look forward to seeing you there!
