Democracy is a Verb—and these future teachers are putting it into action!
Our SS 310 Social Studies Methods students and Phase I teacher candidates are hard at work preparing for the 2026 ESU Constitution Day Conference on September 17!
This year’s theme, “Democracy Is a Verb,” will come to life through engaging, interactive sessions designed and led by our teacher candidates for nearly 100 high school students from area schools.
Behind every conference session are future educators researching, collaborating, writing lesson plans, creating materials, and thinking carefully about how to turn content into meaningful learning experiences for students. And soon, they’ll get to put those plans into practice with real learners.
This is teacher preparation. This is learning by doing. This is what ESU does. 💛🖤
We’re ready to welcome our area high school students to campus on September 17!

Students in the BSE Social Sciences program recently welcomed a panel of NHHS seniors into a Methods for Teaching Social Studies course for an engaging and insightful discussion.
The seniors shared honest perspectives on what they wish their teachers knew—sparking meaningful conversations with our teacher candidates about the importance of building authentic relationships in the classroom.

Adding to the impact, several of the seniors were former students of Mrs. Dice—creating a meaningful full-circle connection that highlights the lasting influence of strong teacher-student relationships.

Experiences like this reflect our program’s strong focus on trauma-informed practices and preparing future educators to create supportive, connection-driven learning environments for all students.
