It is “our pleasure” to showcase the success of our Eagles!

Yesterday, Chick-fil-A Emporia hired 34 GCHS students ON THE SPOT! The leadership of Chick-fil-A was impressed with all of the students that interviewed and raved about their preparedness and overall presentation. Big Eagle Shoutout to the new hires and a huge THANK YOU to Jason Riddle and his team for this great opportunity!

HANDS-ON LEARNING!

The images seen here capture the success of our recent mock crime scene activity! Students in our new Criminal Justice classes were tasked with collecting various types of evidence. This exercise gave students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world scenario. The mock crime scene included different types of evidence collection while carefully labeling evidence bags and packaging the items based on the materials they were made of.

In addition to collecting and packaging evidence, students were required to create a detailed sketch of the crime scene, take notes for proper documentation, and capture photographs of the scene—both to scale and without scale. This experience challenged students to demonstrate attention to detail, an essential skill in criminal justice and forensic science.

This activity helped students gain a deeper understanding of crime scene investigation techniques, critical thinking, and the importance of accuracy in documenting evidence.

"Exercises like these are invaluable in preparing students for careers in criminal justice and forensic science." -D. Brown, Criminal Justice Teacher

Practical Preparation - On Friday, 69 students participated in mock interviews to prepare for the Chick-fil-A Hiring Event on Tuesday, October 15th at GCHS. The mock interviews were conducted in a group format to build confidence and reduce anxiety. Students responded to questions from Forbes 10 Common Job Interview Questions For 2024. The students received real time feedback to their responses and interview strategies. They are ready!

Thanks to our interviewers Dr. Yardley Farquharson, Chief Academic Officer; Karen Riddick, Chief Human Resources Officer; Mary Lou Phelps, Coordinator of New Teacher Support and Licensure; and Brenda Stephenson, GCHS Librarian and to Mr. Ellis for providing interview tips capturing the moments.
