📢 New Publication Alert from Emory & Henry!
We’re excited to share a new research publication authored by Brett M. Frye (Associate Professor of Biology) and Haleigh Cooper (Class of 2024), in collaboration with colleagues at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
🧠 Title: Dietary Pattern-Induced Gut Microbiota Differences Are Associated with White Matter Volume Changes in Middle-Aged Female Macaques
🔬 What did they find?
Dietary patterns—specifically Mediterranean vs. Western diets—can shape the gut microbiome and, in turn, influence brain health. The researchers identified a key microbial player (Oscillospira) that links diet to metabolic regulation and changes in brain white matter. These findings provide important insight into how diet–microbiome interactions may influence aging, metabolic health, and brain integrity, with implications for understanding diseases like Alzheimer’s.
