Here is a FREE activity with the Emmett Early Learning Collaborative and the Emmett Public Library! Mark your calendars for your kids to make a book bag and sign up for the summer reading program!

The Emmett School District School Board will be holding a Special Meeting on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. This meeting will be at 400 S Pine St #27.

Yesterday, our Emmett High School Class of 2026 paraded
through the halls of the schools where so many of their
journeys began. Cheered on by students and staff, it
was a special full-circle moment as seniors returned to
the classrooms and hallways that helped shape them
along the way. 🎉

For our younger students, it’s a glimpse of what’s
possible. For teachers and staff, it’s a proud reminder
of the impact they’ve had on the lives of these
students. A student’s success is a teacher’s success.

On Friday, these seniors will walk out of our schools

A simple look at what's on the ballot, how it's funded, & how funds will be used.

WHAT'S ON THE BALLOT?
Ballot Language: 72.03 per $100,000 of assessed value (This would be the cost if the full $2.3 million needed came only from taxpayers

HOW IT'S FUNDED
Property Tax Relief Bill HB 292 will cover all amount levied except $12.00 per $100,000 of property assessed value

WHAT THIS LEVY SUPPORTS
Behavior Support - $300,000
Clean & Safe Schools - $700,000
Learning Support - $75,000
School Nurses -3 - $225,000
Maintenance - $1,000,000
*Use of these funds is intended to keep kids healthy, safe, & ready to learn

LOCAL CONTROL
If the levy does not pass, the district will still receve HB292 funds - but the state will direct how the district can use these funds

IF THE LEVY DOES NOT PASS
A funding shortfall will require possible reductions in the following services & programs
* Increased class sizes
* Reduced staffing
* Reduced or eliminated transportation for sports, activities, & field trips
* No addtional behaior support
* Reduced nursing staff
* Shift full-day kindergarten to half-day
* Additional reductions to services

📚🗳️ Reminder! TOMORROW is Election Day!

Here’s a simple breakdown of what the May 19 Supplemental Levy means for our schools and community:
💡 Why does the ballot say $72.03?
Idaho law requires school districts to show the maximum possible amount on the ballot.
BUT…
🏛️ Idaho’s HB292 property tax relief funds are applied FIRST to help lower what taxpayers actually pay.
Under the current HB292 funding structure, the School Board has committed to a cap of:
✅ No more than $12 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value
📚 What would the levy support?
✔️ Student safety & behavioral support
✔️ School nurses
✔️ Clean & maintained schools
✔️ Classroom learning materials

❗If the levy does NOT pass, the district may need to consider:
• Larger class sizes
• Staff reductions
• Increased athletics/activity fees
• Reduced transportation for activities & field trips
• Reduced after-school programs
• No new nursing and behavioral support services
• Possible shift from full-day to half-day kindergarten

HB292 funding would still come to the district, but those funds would be restricted by the state to maintenance needs instead of allowing flexibility to support broader student and classroom needs.

Congratulations to our Emmett High School Track athletes!

I spent a few days reflecting on the community forum for the Tuesday levy. I want to thank all the patrons who attended and have watched it on our YouTube channel. One portion of the discussion included a comment I felt needed a response.

During Wednesday evening’s public forum, a patron shared comments regarding the history of mental health institutions closing and the increasing responsibilities placed on public schools over the years. While the patron expressed that no offense was intended, part of the discussion centered around whether all students benefit equally from public education and the financial impact some programs can have on school systems.

As I listened, I felt it was important for me to respond, not in criticism of the individual speaking, but because I deeply believe in the purpose and responsibility of public education.

Every student who walks, rolls, or is carried through our school doors has value. I cannot, in good conscience, imagine a system that excludes students based on ability, need, or the level of support they may require. Public education in my mind was never intended to only serve those who fit neatly into one mold. It exists to serve all children.

Some of the very students that came to my mind during this discussion teach the rest of us lessons that cannot be measured on a state assessment or placed into a budget spreadsheet. They teach empathy, compassion, patience, friendship, perseverance, and understanding. They remind us that education is not solely about content standards, test scores, or academic efficiency. It is also about humanity and learning to live, work, and grow alongside people who may experience the world differently than we do.

That is one of the reasons I chose education as my profession. Watching students grow, overcome challenges, and interact with one another is incredible. The impact extends far beyond academics.

Public schools are one of the few places in society where every child is welcomed, valued, and given an opportunity to belong. I believe that is something worth protecting.
