🏀 Massage therapy isn't just for recovery anymore—it's becoming a strategic part of elite athletic performance.
According to a recent AMTA article exploring NCAA basketball programs:
💬 “Massage therapy has transitioned from an ‘as-needed’ modality to a strategic, integrated element.” - says Jose Fonseca, Duke’s Associate Director of Athletic Medicine/Head Men’s Basketball Athletic Trainer
Top programs like Duke, Michigan, and Michigan State are incorporating massage therapy into their athletes' wellness and performance plans to support recovery, injury prevention, sleep, and mental focus.
Another powerful takeaway:
💬 “Massage therapy is an integral part of our comprehensive program.”
As sports organizations continue to recognize the value of massage therapy, trained massage therapists are finding exciting opportunities to work with athletes and active populations.

Celebrating World Bicycle Day with our NHI San Jose students 🚴
10 students from all four San Jose Core program groups volunteered at the Tierra Bella Cycling Tour finish line at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, offering massage therapy to riders after their long day on the road.
Despite a rainy forecast and intermittent showers throughout the event, our students showed up ready to support the cycling community with professionalism, care, and hands-on recovery work. Over the course of six hours, they served more than 100 clients and became one of the busiest booths at the event.
We’re proud to see our students bringing their skills into the community and helping athletes recover, recharge, and keep moving.

Meet Edith Harris (), USAF Veteran, NHI Studio City graduate, and Medical Massage Clinician, turned her passion for clinical bodywork into a thriving private practice specializing in chronic pain and complex cases.
After using her GI Bill® benefits to begin her education at NHI, Edith completed the Core Massage Therapy Program, Advanced Neuromuscular Therapy Program, and earned her Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree.
Today, she is the owner of Knead Obscura in Thousand Oaks, where she works with clients experiencing chronic pain, post-surgical recovery challenges, scar tissue complications, and mobility issues through clinically informed massage therapy.
“The degree gave me the tools to be the connecting piece, someone who can sit at the table with medical providers and specialists and help the puzzle make sense.”
Edith’s journey reflects the impact of advanced training, clinical education, and determination in building a meaningful career in medical massage therapy.

🎉 Community, connection, and a little parade magic ✨
NHI and IOT came together for the Redding Rodeo Parade with an incredible crew of students, staff, and families proudly representing our schools along the parade route. From handing out candy and flyers to sharing chair massages and celebrating the spirit of wellness, this was such a fun way to connect with the community we love. 💙💚
Our float featured anatomy-inspired decorations, balloons, flowers, and even live massage demos — all created with the creativity and teamwork our students bring every day. And to top it off… we brought home 🏆 2nd Place in our category!
Thank you to everyone who helped build, decorate, walk, wave, and support this unforgettable experience. We’re so grateful for the warm welcome and encouragement from the Redding community!
