🐝🌼 Our 3rd grade Nectar Navigators participated in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census in our school pollinator garden!

Students observed and counted the pollinators they found while making a real-world connection to their PBL:

How do changes in our school environment affect pollinators and the food systems that people and animals depend on?

We loved getting outside, collecting real data for UGA, and learning more about the pollinators in our own school environment! 🌾🦋

Today our first graders launched their PBL by observing the chickens in the coop at school. They recorded their observations in their STEM journals. They even got to see Ms. Misty share cafeteria food scraps with the chickens.

✈️ Learning Math Through Paper Airplanes! ✈️

Today, our students took learning to new heights as they designed and tested their own paper airplanes while being introduced to the order of operations! 📄➗✖️➕➖

Mrs. Hemmerling, Mrs. Graham, and Mr. Wilson planned an engaging lesson where student teams were provided four different sets of directions to build a paper airplane. One group had the correct directions, one had an additional step, one had steps out of order, and another group had a missing step. After testing, it was clear that the correct direction and order group’s airplane flew the furthest. What a great way to engage and introduce order of operations and PEMDAS.

Way to make math fly! 🚀

If you heard music in the hallways today, you might have been at Emerson Elementary! Our administration treated our staff to Nothing Bundt ‘Celebrations.’ We celebrated many different milestones and goals that we met this past school year. Thank you to Cartersville’s new Nothing Bundt Cakes for sponsoring this celebration. 🎉
