An EV charging project can be fully designed, contracted, and permitted, and still hit a wall when the fire marshal says: "We will never permit this."
That's not a hypothetical problem for EV infrastructure. It's a real permitting challenge that developers and contractors are encountering as codes and safety standards catch up with rapidly evolving technology.
In one project, the solution wasn't simply arguing that EV chargers were safe.
It was building a technical case that gave local officials something concrete to evaluate.
That meant understanding equipment certifications such as UL 2202 and UL 2594, knowing what those standards actually address, understanding what NFPA requirements do and don't say, and translating that technical information into language that fire officials and local decision-makers could use.
This is where technical knowledge and regulatory fluency become valuable.
Clean energy projects don't get built on engineering alone.
Someone has to navigate the permitting process, understand the applicable codes and standards, communicate with authorities, and make the technical case when the rulebook isn't perfectly clear.
As EV charging, battery storage, and distributed energy infrastructure scale, those skills become increasingly important.
The opportunity isn't just in building the technology.
It's in knowing how to get the technology approved.
