Skater Spotlight!

Meet Noah! This time last year Noah was a brand new, level one skater. In September 2025 he rolled into Buckeye Skating Academy unable to stand up straight on skates and clinging to the wall. His coach saw something special in him from the start. He helped Noah not only believe he can, but achieve some big goals. Noah worked hard and had the opportunity to travel to Nationals in July to compete in the C Championship and won 2nd place in the Boys Primary C event. We are proud of him and how far he has come in one short year! Noah currently skates freestyle and recently started skating pairs. His goal this skate season is to qualify for Nationals in both of those events. When asking Noah what made him feel most proud on his journey his response was simple, "everything".

Meet our coach and rink owner, Chad Smith!

To say that roller skating is in his blood is an understatement. Growing up, both of Chad's parents were coaches so much of his childhood was spent in a rink. Chad was a national champion in both skating and pairs. He truly fell in love with skating while skating pairs with his partner, Sunny. While they had ups and downs they were always able to count on eachother to work hard and accomplish their goals.

Presently, he teaches anything that requires a routine but specializes in freeskating and pairs. As a coach Chad loves to watch a student work hard on learning a new "trick" and seeing the look of pure happiness when they are able to do it successfully.

In his time coaching Chad has had many moments he is incredibly proud of but these three stand out the most:

1) In 2025 his son, Marcus, won his freeskating event at Nationals. Chad has taught Marcus since he first put on skates and this win was many years in the making. Having their hard work come together at Nationals was very special for them both.

2) At Nationals 2026 Chad's daughter, Madison, won her creative event. Chad had a vision that Madison brought to life in such a moving way. While the win was something to celebrate, hearing what watching her routine meant to others was just as sweet.

3) Watching his student, Noah, rise from a level 1 class fall of 2025 to earning 2nd place in his event at Nationals summer of 2026. This accomplishment in less than a year is something Chad believes he will only see once.

Fun fact about Chad, in addition to skating freeskating and pairs he also played roller hockey!
