This past Saturday, 64811A Overheat competed in the Dan Spak Memorial VRC Competition. Nicholas finished the qualifiers with a record of 5-1-0 (dq'd after driving over a disk while scoring the 3 disks he was in possession of (robots may not possess more than 3 disks at one time)). 64811A was rank 12 going into the elimination bracket and chose 60883W (rank 43) as an alliance partner. As a team they won the Round of 16 and went into the Quarterfinal. Unfortunately, Nicholas was called again for a possession violation after driving over top 2 discs while the catapult was loaded with 3 discs. In an effort to avoid a dq and to rectify the situation, he launched his catapult. The discs landed outside the arena and his alliance was disqualified. Nicholas ended the day as the Skills Champion and was awarded the Amaze Award by the judges. The Amaze Award is presented to a team that has built an amazing, high-scoring robot that clearly demonstrates overall quality.

Today, Elyt Robotics kicked off their 2022-23 competition season at Wooster High School. Overheat arrived as only 1 of 2 catapults in an attendance of 54 teams. 64811A Overheat finished the qualifiers ranked 11 with a record of 4-1-0. Overheat chose 7316E (ranked 39) as an alliance partner. They went into the elimination bracket Round of 16 causing the first upset of the afternoon. In the quarterfinal, a string on 64811A slipped out of its holder resulting in Overheat having to remove the robot from play. In a 1 vs. 2 match, 7316E was unable to maintain their lead and the alliance was eliminated. Nicholas was able to get one driver skills attempt in prior to the skills line closing. Despite being 'disc'oriented, he was able to finish the day 2nd in skills. Overheat is now 2nd in Ohio. 64811A received the Judges Award. Job well done!

Will 5203G Gremlin (currently rank 10) in the VEX Robotics Haunted: A Halloween Signature Event take the tournament? Only time will tell. Brecksville's 2011A Asymmetrical is currently Rank 3 and Elyria's 11124R T-Rex Push-Ups is Rank 4.

2022 Ohio VEX Robotics State Championship Tournament - High School Livestream - March 12, 2022 03/14/2022

Yesterday 64811A competed in the VEX VRC Ohio State Championship. Nicholas won all 7 of his matches, however, was awarded 2 disqualifications stripping away his win points and giving him a record of 5-2. The disqualifications moved him from rank 1 to rank 16 going into the alliance selection. His alliance was eliminated in the round of 16. 64811A was on fire all day and displayed his skill for the spectators. Nicholas also posted a new personal best skills score and qualified for the World Championship.

Now forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, we prepare for our Robo Hockey Tournament in April. Our drivers from 64811A and 64811J will team up for the very first time as they take on the competition in 3-minute double elimination hockey matches.

Mahoning Valley VEX Tipping Point 02/07/2022

This past weekend we took a road trip east to the Mahoning Valley VEX qualifier. We anticipated a finals match against Brecksville but as all robotics teams quickly find out, things don't always go as planned. Nicholas was one of four undefeated teams after qualifiers. His record was 5-0 and was ranked 4th going into alliance selections. 64811A allianced with 2011D from Brecksville. In their semifinal match, the score ended 86 to 65. As the clock hit zero it appeared 64811A was making indirect contact with the opponent's platform through the opponent's robot. The ref attempted to slide a piece of paper between the robots. It was determined that the end of a zip tie was contacting the opponent's robot and 64811A was disqualified. 64811A ended the day 2nd in skills and was awarded the Think Award. Watch the semifinal match below.

This past Saturday, 64811A had their second opportunity to test out their new build against an opponent. It ended up being a flawless day at the US Army VRC Tournament in Norwalk. Nicholas posted another new high score in skills. He posted a driver stop time of 17 seconds and increased his programming score by 20 points. He remained in 1st rank throughout the qualifiers and went into the elimination bracket as the only undefeated team. 64811A allianced with 11124R and coasted through the elimination bracket. The final match ended in a tie 147-147, however, the score was contested and the ref ruled a match affecting violation occurred (ring fell out of opponent's goal) and the win was awarded to the opponent. 64811A ended the day as Tournament Finalist, Skills Champion, and brought home the Excellence Award. To top it off, all teams in the final received a Cinnamon Kringle. Now that's an award that won't collect dust! Congratulations Nicholas!

Just over 2 weeks ago, 64811A OverHeat, competed in the Mount Vernon VRC Qualifier. This was Nicholas' first opportunity to drive his new anodized robot build against an opponent. The robot competed at a higher level than the original build but had some ups and downs due to springing a pneumatic leak. 64811A was chosen by 1st Rank 6008C from North Union as an alliance partner in the elimination bracket. They were winning the quarterfinal match 130 to 119 when Nicholas made a risky maneuver in an attempt to clinch the win. The maneuver resulted in the opponent being awarded 30 penalties points and 64811A was eliminated. 64811A ended the day as Skills Champion (posted a new high score) and took home the Judges Award. Congratulations!
