This Saturday, families are invited to attend a virtual event at Great Basin National Park- Come tour the Cave and meet a Bat Biologist!

This free fun event hosted by Blue Star Families is geared for elementary students- as we helped to set it up- your students have a formal invitation to join!

What: Virtual Visit of Lehman Caves
When: Saturday, October 24, noon-1pm
Where: Online- Please register ahead to get emailed the link. Register here.
Why: This fun event geared for elementary-aged kids is an opportunity to learn about Lehman Caves and meet a Bat Biologist. Just in time to learn more about the spooky flying symbol of the holiday around the corner. 🕸🕷🎃

Free lunch/breakfast for all DEN students

This year we are privileged to receive free food services for all DEN students. This is due to the large number of parents who filled out Free Reduced Lunch (FRL) Applications LAST YEAR. We need that again NEXT YEAR. When you get your FRL application PLEASE fill it out ASAP. By collecting so many we were able to get a large enough number to qualify that our entire school will enjoy the benefit We don't have much time though, We need all applications back ASAP. The deadline is Sept 17 (just 2 weeks into school).

FILL OUT YOUR APPLICATION when it comes to your house. THANKS

You do not have to have your child receive the free lunch. You are welcome to pack one, but EVERYONE can get one!

Dear Online Families,
We are setting up your student’s learning account. If you did not submit a survey earlier this summer with your student’s name, please contact the school office and inform the staff that your student will be learning online. You do not need to fill out any paperwork, we just need your student’s name.
As you prepare for school to start, please look for a comfortable, quiet, distraction free spot to set up your learning technology.

Dear Families,
If your student will be learning on campus in a few weeks, I have some tips to share to get your student ready for in the classroom learning. (Online families most of this will not apply to your student.)
*Have your student practice wearing a mask for longer amounts of time each day (starting today). The best time to practice is when he/she is doing something where hands are engaged. During screen time is a great time to practice because hands and minds are busy.Encourage your student not to touch the mask while he/she is wearing it.
*Buy multiple masks so your student has a clean one each day and a few spares. One place to look is schoolmaskpack.com. You can get yourself a mask there, too.
*Find a hand sanitizer that your student likes that has at least 60% ethyl alcohol. Students will be sanitizing hands 4+ times a day and should have a product that he/she likes. Unscented would be best to avoid causing problems for others. You may want a few so that one can be left in the lunchbox or backpack.
*Talk to your student about ways to show affection without touching. (Maybe “elbow touch” or “air hug”). Your student and friends may even create special ways to greet each other contact free.
*Have your student practice eating lunch especially, if you are sending a cold lunch. Students need to be able to open containers themselves (milk containers, insert straws, open packages etc.) . Include an empty tupperware container to hold his/her mask while eating. Another idea is to include a mask to wear for the afternoon and put the used bag in a bag to be washed.

Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Hellman, and I will be hosting a “Zoom Meet and Greet” Wednesday, September 2nd at 10:00 a.m. and another Thursday, September 3rd at 7:00 p.m. Families who have online students may choose the time that works best for them.

I will be teaching virtually this year. Stay tuned - I will let you know more as I learn more. From what I have learned about Schools PLP (which we will be using to learn and teach virtually), it is a well organized, sequential, comprehensive online program.
